• Combatting a fear of death
    Sep 2 2025

In this podcast we discuss the fear of death and suggest some strategies to alleviate this fear that have worked for us and others in the past. Whether it's the fear of your own death, of someone you love, even a pet dying - or the fear of your body being vulnerable after death, these are all common fears that people have been writing in to us for years.

Now, as we say in the pod, we are not trained counsellors, and these strategies are only suggestions - so please, if you are struggling with any feelings that are affecting the way you live your life, we really recommend you seek professional help - your doctor or a telephone helpline is a great place to start - there's no need to suffer alone.

We hope you enjoy this pod.

    Til next time,

    stay safe,

  • The strange places & ways people die
    Jul 22 2025

In this pod, we revisit a conversation about some of the more unusual places/circumstances people have died in, under mortician/embalmer Tracy's watch.

As heart retching and devastating death can be, it forms a part of all of our lives and so occasionally, we like to venture to the lighter side of things and this, friends, is one of those times. If you watch us on YouTube, you may have heard one or two of these before - but believe us - there is a never-ending stream of lighter, quirky stories to share, and we are constantly amazed by the vastly different type of deaths, and also ways people grieve or celebrate life.

We hope you enjoy our podcast and take this discussion in the spirit it was intended.

  • Preparing a baby in the mortuary - July 9
    Jul 8 2025

Any death is tragic, sad and often distressing for the family, but the death of a baby either in utero or in the first hours, days and months of life can take the feelings of grief and loss to a whole different level. Having time with the baby, either at home or as a family viewing in the funeral home, can bring some comfort and this time together, unrushed and in private, is something grieving parents often need.

In this episode mortician/embalmer Tracy explains how she works on the body of a baby to prepare it for a family viewing - because in most cases, when a baby dies, the parents will want to spend a little more time with the infant, to cuddle and hold it, and often they ask to take the baby home. There are times when this is possible, and times when it may not be advised, but it is the mortician's job to put whatever steps in place that need to be done so the family can have that time to say goodbye. We hope this episode answers some of your questions. Thaks for listening,

  • Unusual mortuary requests - June 29, 2025
    Jun 28 2025

In this pod embalmer/mortician Tracy talks about the lighter side of the funeral industry where lives are celebrated with colourful costumes, quirky themes and heart-warming gestures that are unforgettable to those working with the families. From Star Trek and Frozen to the sudden appearance of killer clown Pennywise from the movie IT, there have been so many memorable moments during Tracy's time in the mortuary - we thought we'd bring you a few.

It's a reminder to us all that although death is tragic and devastating to families, it can also be uplifting and the funeral service doesn't always have to be heavy and serious.

It's also a great reminder to make your wishes known - because the funerals are for the living, to help with grief - and what better way to help your family through a tough time than to make them smile, even if just a little...

Please check out our YouTube channel if you haven't already for hundreds more videos about what goes on, behind the mortuary doors.

  • What 5 years talking deathcare has taught us - June 13, 2025
    Jun 12 2025

In this episode we look back at what 5 years of talking about deathcare and the funeral industry on our YouTube channel has taught us. We've learned so much from the viewers through their comments and questions and we never anticipated the direction the channel would take when we started - ironically, because of a technical glitch, this pod was recorded in Trish's massage clinic, where our very first YouTube video was filmed. Cute eh!

    We hope you enjoy

  • There's something Eerie in Ballarat
    Dec 7 2024

After a bit of a sabbatical, we are happy to bring you a super interesting chat we had with Nate, owner of the award-winning Eerie tours that has been scaring the beejeebus out of paying customers since 2008 with its perfectly terrifying blend of history and horror at some of Victoria's most troubled locations.
In addition to the old Ballarat cemetery, home to a mass goldrush grave the size of a tennis court, Eerie tours frequents an abandoned insane asylum for hours at a time after dark, and a quarantine station that saw constant suffering and death in the 1800s.
Prepare yourself for a time when the streets glistened with gold and ran with blood - when being helpful in a lunatic asylum meant you would never leave...

If it's the darker side of history you crave, get on a flight to Victoria and go spend some time with Eerie tours for a chilling experience you will never forget.
