  • Rethinking Virtual Meetings and Better Meeting Management, a Conversation with Matt Homann
    Dec 1 2020

We all know meetings can be either the best time spent in a day or the absolute worst. Take that one step further with conferences and having any semblance of engagement. I talk with longtime friend, Matt Homann, Founder and CEO of Filament, the better meetings company to talk about how meetings need to evolve, how conference organizers can create better value for vendors/sponsors, and why you should consider firing a client every year.

  • Hot Take - Twitter Fleets
    Nov 18 2020

Hot Take is a new series as part of According to Fred the Podcast. A Hot Take is exactly what you think it is, my hot take on some recent news or events happening in marketing, technology, or business. Not full reviews, but a quick assessment and opinion...according to, well me -- Fred.

To kick this series off, today Twitter Fleets, their version of "stories" launched. Content that allows users to publish content as "part of the conversation" that Twitter offers, but disappears after 24 hours. The idea is to publish a 'fleeting thought' without the permanency that Twitter is known for. I share my thoughts as to why add this to their platform, why now, and why this could be interesting. As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Of course it is business, then it is usually about something else. Revenue.

  • Navigating Digital Policies, a Discussion with Kristina Podnar
    Nov 16 2020

Kristina is a digital policy innovator. At her core, Kristina understands that for today’s businesses, the internet is full of both promise and peril. Promise because you have more ways to engage more customers than ever before. Danger not only due to content and social media gaffs that could alienate customers and damage your brand, but also due to a regulatory environment that is growing more complex every day, with potentially high penalties for breaking laws you may not even know exist. For over two decades, she has worked with some of the most high-profile companies to balance the risk and opportunity of conducting business in the digital age. Kristina is now focused on helping others master the methodology she has developed and hone their global digital policy chops through her experience.

Kristina is the Principal of Native Trust Consulting, LLC. Her book, The Power of Digital Policy was published in March 2019. She has lived in the E.U. and U.S., and has experience navigating English, Croatian, Russian, German, Italian, and Japanese.

  • The MarTech 5000, eCommerce and Evolving Tech Landscape, a Discussion with Ryan Lunka
    Apr 28 2020

Another guest on the podcast. Ryan Lunka is the COO at nChannel, a SaaS software that empowers retailers, wholesalers, and technologists with integration tools to sync data and automate processes among eCommerce, ERP, POS and 3PL systems.

Outside of nChannel, Ryan is also involved in a few non-profits such as Guitars not Guns and Can’t Stop Columbus. Ryan and I used to be colleagues at a startup before it was acquired back in 2014 and it was great to catch up with him and hear his point of view on eCommerce, DTC, the MarTech 5000 landscape infographic and the work he's doing at both of the non-profits. Oh, and he is in a band too. You should check them out on Spotify. They are called Local Tourists.

  • Have we hit a VR tipping point? A conversation with Amber Osborne.
    Apr 11 2020

I'm a big fan of emerging technology. While I can't always afford it, our family recently got an Oculus Quest VR headset and I have to say, I'm really impressed. So when I wanted to learn more about VR and talk about the potential of the platform it was a no brainer to call my friend, Amber Osborne, who is a AR/VR marketing strategist and consultant. In my first conversational episode, Amber and I talk about how far VR has come over the last few years, our excitement over the potential future, our love of Ready Player One and the O.A.S.I.S. and more.

Thank you to Amber Osborne for joining me in this podcast to talk about VR. You can reach her at @missdistructo and https://www.amberosborne.com.

  • Is Masterclass worth the subscription?
    Apr 3 2020

I'm Fred Faulkner, and this is my Masterclass. If you are not familiar, Masterclass.com is an online learning site, but the difference between Masterclass and any other online educational site is the celebrity status it comes with. Learn acting from Samuel L. Jackson. Learn writing from Judy Blume. Take cooking lessons from Gordon Ramsey! With over 80 classes by celebrity instructors, there is no shortage of topics and content.

I've been a subscriber for just over a year now. I thought I'd share my thoughts on the price of admission. What I like, and what I don't like. (Spoiler, not much).
