COMPLETELY SHIFTED MY MINDSET

I have been in this loop for the past 13 years with the worst relationship with food. Reading this book has completely shifted my mindset and made me look at food in a different way. I can’t wait to see my results, this will be life changing! I could not recommend this book more!

I dare you not to have a take away

This book is practical, factual, easy to listen too, relatable and life changing. Even if you only take away some small change in behaviour or affirmation, you will take something away.

Great premise but felt condescending

I wholly agree that society evaluates people by their outward appearance. Overweight can carry labels of lazy and can’t stick to anything. When weight loss is successful, either through healthy eating, fitness or even ill health; people want to know how it was achieved but also warn ‘don’t lose any more, you’ll look too skinny’. People just can’t win -someone will be offended!
I liked the premise of the book, to be you and not be mentally (and physically) abused by family cyclic behaviours and societal expectations. I was nodding in familiarity at the descriptions of the authors Mum - always dieting, pressuring her daughter to eat low cal foods, commenting on her body shape. I have been raised in that environment, my mother is still ‘fasting’ aged 75yrs & type 1 diabetic! I tried to provide yummy, healthy low GI foods when she visited on holiday (meat/fish, roasted veg, salads) but she avoided anything salad bc ‘my ancestors didn’t raise me to eat salad’. Even though her insulin requirements reduced and she felt better than she had for ages.
Unfortunately, I found the authors’ tone condescending. I was very much looking forward to hearing this book when I purchased it, so I pushed on, and tried to be a non-judgemental listener. I just couldn’t get more than halfway through. Maybe it was the frame of mind I was in at the time. I will give it another chance.
For reference, I am a 50yr old woman, who has been overweight and a healthy weight, work as a health professional, exercise a couple times a week, couple glasses of wine a week, try not to eat too many carbs but eat well and am not adverse to a treat when I fancy it.

Feels incomplete

Good book, haven't finished it yet, but it feels incomplete because there is reference made to hierarchy but we really need to have this in front of us to get the best out of this. Should have come with PDFs for this sort of thing.

So many light bulb moments!

This book was phenomenal and amazingly it is the complete opposite of everything I have ever been taught and tried to do in the world of diet, restriction and weightloss. I am 40 years old and still have yet to master the yo yo diet world I learnt to exist in since being a child and l am tired of the failed attempts, guilt and negative self talk so this book was purchased with the hope I would be able to get some tools to help me forever leave the “diet world” behind and it has not disappointed! I had so many “oh that’s me” and even more A-HA lightbulb moments coupled with the work books l genuinely feel relieved to have found a healthy way out of the toxic guilt ridden must restrict or punish myself world that never worked for me but I continued to live in everyday. This books is filled with great advice and tools to help me move forward with repairing my relationship with food and l am excited to now do her Keep it Real Course.

Before you start another diet, listen to this book

It just might change your life. I never read self help books, not my deal. Yet, when I was scrolling through titles looking for my next listen this one caught my eye. Maybe it’s because, like most women, I’ve spent the majority of my life thinking my weight is the problem! I was about to start my usual Monday diet after feeling bad about what I ate on the weekend and feeling anxious that I really need to “properly start dieting” before my beach holiday in a few weeks. I absolutely needed to loose 5kgs, otherwise I can’t have fun! I was tired and I needed a fresh approach. This book spoke to me on so many levels I don’t even know where to start. You are guaranteed to have lightbulb moments about food, health and exercise. It will change you perspective and make being healthy fun again. Stop feeling guilty about food, do yourself a favour and download this book.

A fresh perspective

Really enjoyable, easy to listen to and highlights a lot of subconscious truths about diet culture. Highly recommend for anyone interested in breaking down diet culture and myths.

Feel happier in yourself

Although I have read a few non diet diet books this one feels different. It seems to tackle the subject in a more realistic non judgemental way for me. The body confidence section was particularly helpful. If you have tried loads of diets and still don’t feel happy then I would definitely recommend this book.
