Publisher's Summary

First published three years ago before the print edition of Women Who Run with the Wolves made publishing history, this original audio edition quickly became an underground best seller. For it's insights into the inner lives of women, it established Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes as one of the most important voices of our time in the fields of Jungian psychology, myth, and women's mysteries.

Drawing from her work as a psychoanalyst and cantadora (keeper of old stories), Dr. Estes uses myths and folktales to illustrate how societies systematically strip away the feminine spirit. Through an exploration into the nature of the wild woman archetype, Dr. Estes helps listeners rediscover and free their own wild nature.

Is it like the book?

I’m not sure this audible version is as the book? Seems too short. Nevertheless it’s a wonderful book and told beautifully

Incomplete

What would have made Women Who Run with the Wolves better?

Sold the complete version, or at least let people know. Extremely disappointed, hard copy has many more chapters and stories in full detail. It’s a great incomplete book.

What was most disappointing about Clarissa Pinkola Estes’s story?

Her story is wonderful, but this audiobook is not complete.

Loved it but wish there was an unabridged version

I love the Author's storytelling, her words and tone are so captivating... I just really would loved to have heard the full length of the book, it finished far too soon.

Amazing and insightful

I read 'Women Who Run With the Wolves' in a paperback last year and loved it. I downloaded the audio book to save me time in re-reading it only to find that the audiobook was significantly condensed. However I still adored the messages and insights within the text.

Not the book!

This is NOT the book of the same name. It is more like a lecture that captures some but certainly not all the ideas in the book. It should have a different title. There are some great concepts in here but they are not fleshed out and there is so much missing from the wisdom offered in the book. Buyer beware.

I’m confused

I read this book 24 years ago after my husband died . I was in a book shop trying to find something to help heal when a old lady unpleasing appearance started talking about this book and I decided to buy it. Strangely that women just disappeared ... was a very thick book I loved this book took me a long time to read it. I’ve never forgotten it. Always said I’d read it again. Instead got the audible due to time constraints and are some what very disappointed. I will need to read the book again as I still have it . Sorry but disappointment

Empowering

At a little over 2 hours, I was able to listen to this in full in one sitting - much like sitting down to watch a movie. However, it is broken into two parts, so you could listen to part one, then take a break and come back to part two later if you wanted to do this in smaller 1 hour sittings.

I really enjoyed this. The author touches on some important topics, but does so in a gentle way. She uses fairytales from different cultures as examples to illustrate her different topics.

I am 35 and I enjoyed this immensely. I wish I could have read this book in my teens or my twenties, as I feel it would have empowered me to embrace my inner wild woman more, to really be true to myself, rather than spend my life making myself small to fit into the box that my family and society expected.

An excellent Audible rendition. I highly recommend this.

Guess I know what "Abridged" means now....

Would you listen to Women Who Run with the Wolves again? Why?

Only if I could get the "entire" book on audio, didn't realize this wasn't the whole book

What did you like best about this story?

Love her storytelling!

What about Clarissa Pinkola Estes’s performance did you like?

The way she tells stories

Any additional comments?

I'm REALLY disappointed that this was so short - is there another way to get the entire book on audio?

Book is superb; Audible edition is a ripoff.

I didn't realize "abridged" meant only two chapters. The book is one of my all-time favorites. This audible edition is a letdown.

Is not the entire book

This does not include the entire book. Just a compressed version. Not all the mythes are included. No chapters and is hard to follow.

Really short

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I also have a new appreciation for the word 'abridged.' This book is difficult to 'summarize.' The audible version is a good overview, but I wish I knew that the stories would be missed. I would have spent this 2 hours reading my book book.

too abridged - too softly spoken

Would you try another book from Clarissa Pinkola Estes and/or Clarissa Pinkola Estes?

I love the actual brick and mortar book . And I have two more of hers - unabridged - in my cart right now.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Too softly spoken. I listen while driving and it's hard to pay attention with her soft, slow voice. It also lulls me to sleep a little. I've restarted a couple times, realizing that my mind was wandering and I had missed so much.

Any additional comments?

I love the actual brick and mortar book - and it's huge. I can't believe they condensed it in to less than 3 hours. It's too abridged

Excellent!

I read Women Who Run With The Wolves about two years ago. I was so inspired by the author's work that I made sure all my friends, men and women, knew about it. I think it is a must read, especially for women who feel a great need to rediscover and reclaim their sacred wolf bones in order to truly run free, without inhabition. Wild, like our nature. And especially for the men who love the wolf and want to understand her being and not capture her soul. I LOVE this audio. And the best part is Dr. Marissa Pinkola Estes narrated the audio book herself, now how lucky can one get?

Too short

Any additional comments?

This was far shorter than I expected. It was not clear just how abridged it was. Having read the book many years ago I was looking forward to hearing the depth of the work but it stopped after two chapters. I wouldn't choose to pay this much for such a short version. Very disapointed.

I feel conned

Unfortunately this audio version is not the whole book. It's merely a couple of chapters, out of 16. I bought it to listen to in the car, on my way to and from work, as I don't have the time to read the book at the moment. I was left with the feeling of having been conned. What a rip off!!!

Abridged version narrated by the author

An excellent recording by the author herself, who as a storyteller and “cantadora” is exactly the right person to read it, and at times, sing it.

Note that it is not the full book. I did not know this before I downloaded it and was a little disappointed. However the recording at 2h20m long is very accessible and a great introduction to the book (which is very long and dense). It covers the main concepts and stories of the book. Excellent and highly recommended.

A book for the wild woman in all of us...

Any additional comments?

Clarissa Pinkola Estes is a beautiful story teller. Every message she shares is done so with eloquence using tales of old brought magnificently into the here and now. I cannot recommend this enough.

Amazingly insightful!!!!

An amazing read for both men and women. For women, this book finally makes sense of why our lives are the way they are. For men, it allows men a greater understanding of the innate beauty present in every woman. This is a book that every young person should read or have read to them. It explaines why every person is a unique individual and should be honoured as such.
