I really wanted Phil & Marlo
I enjoyed the knowledge that I received in the book. It was an enjoyable, intelligent, eye-opening, and I think it achieved what they set out to do. But... Narration was very upsetting. Disconcerting actually. I really needed Phil & Marlo to narrate all their own parts. I understand, because there were hours upon hours of recording which required editing, that it made it impossible for everyone to say their parts but certainly Phil & Marlo could have done theirs. I appreciated the diversity of couples. So, it was a good book but the narration just did not sit well with me.

Why Did They Do That?
Well, for me, they blew this one, big time. I read this book because I thought it would be interesting to hear about these couple’s marriages. The problem is, that they, these famous people, who all have a voice, weren’t speaking for themselves. The narrators (one of whom I’ve listen to narrate many stories) did the talking for them. It totally took an interesting book and made it sound.. well, awful. Why did they not have the couples that they interviewed read their own chapters? WHY didn’t Marlo and Phil actually narrate these interviews? Seriously, I though that what could have been a totally fun book to hear, was, almost hard to listen to. While learning about these couples was interesting, this is a book to be “read.” The audio version doesn’t measure up. Because these performers were speaking the words of famous people we all know well, the narrators really just didn’t work.

This book was refreshing and enlighten. Taught me a lot about couples indivisible styles and how each relationship is constructed. Some lessons I’ve already applied to my own new relationship and look forward to learning much more.
