Publisher's Summary

The White Lich has conquered Mallon and smashed all resistance to him. Now, he marches on the north. Within weeks, Narashtovik will fall to his armies. Gask will follow.

And after that, there can be no stopping him.

Dante and Blays have a single hope of victory: the Spear of Stars, the long-lost weapon that may be capable of killing the lich. There's just one problem. Though they've learned the spear is real, they've also learned the nine parts of the weapon are guarded by the gods themselves. And they have no intention of handing over their prize.

Alone in a strange realm, with no friends or allies, and a growing list of enemies, Dante and Blays' task looks doomed.

Yet, they're the last line standing between the lich and the destruction of their whole world.

brilliantly frustrating.

this book has you wanting to jump ahead of the narrator because the big finish is edging closer and closer and closer but every little hesitation is what builds this excitement this tension to want you to get there. brilliantly written and for those whom haven't read this book yet won't add a spoiler but i found the end very very satisfying. This book has the brilliance in its ending that wants you having more of Dante blays and co because to mention their names would only spoil it for those yet to read this book but at the same time satisfied where it has ended. 10/10 for me anyways loved it loved the series well done to an epic story. Wonder if they could turn it into a TV series like game of thrones on a big budget without drifting or cutting out parts of the story.

Yet ANOTHER GREAT addition: sound sucks?

Another great addition by Robertson, performed by Reynolds. But geez the audio mix is pretty bad! A studio engineer could do better. An amateur YouTuber does better. I drag and drop a $20 plugin from Studio One and it sounds MUCH better. So what gives? Did Tim Gerard Reynolds practice social distancing and record this in his house off his iPhone? Did Podium Publishing drop the ball? Reynolds ALWAYS brings me into a world with his beautiful, gorgeous voice. Well, except for this time... 4 different headphones 3 different computers

cycle of buckler, not galand

Dante gets the short end of this story, over and over. If you like Dante as a character and want to see him be even mildly competent or contribute meaningfully to his own story, I cannot recommend this book.

I put every other book down when this went live

The combination of Edward W. Robertsons writing and Tim Gerard Reynolds angelic pipes made this entire series one of my favorites, and this addition did not disappoint.

Time to stop...

Author is writing just to write now. While I love the series and the characters, it is time to come up with new ones. This book was boring. Fighting the gods now? Weak. Move on please.

Who mastered this audio?

A good story and a great narrator, both suffering a massive disservice from an audio engineer who, I assume, must be holding some secret grudge — EQ and compression quality this bad must have been intentional.

Good but not great

The story was good, and enjoyable, but I don't remember really enjoying it, or being as drawn in as I was in the previous books. It's not bad by any means, it just fell a bit flat. Narration is lovely as always though!

moral and religious questions

one of the reasons I thought this book was so wonderful as how it poses so many moral ethical ,and religious type questions. it was both entertaining ,and thought-provoking. plus Tim Gerard Reynolds is one of the greatest readers ever.

The series maintains excellent quality.

I find it difficult to set aside time to read physical books, so Audible is a very convenient way for me to get my fix. Finding the original 64-hour Cycle of Arawn for one single credit was a serious boon so many years ago. While the story may have had a few problems, overall I was very pleased with the progression of both the plot and the characters. So suffice it to say, so many books later, it was an excruciating wait for 'What Lies Beyond'. And now, after having consumed every minute of the 23 hours, I can comfortably say that 'What Lies Beyond' continues the absolutely stellar quality of writing and characters that I've come to love Robertson for. This book explores some rather serious themes with a deftness that surprised me. Without spoiling anything, the theology of Dante and Blayse's world is expanded upon greatly. All in all, a fantastic damn book. I really do hope that some many months from now, I can enjoy another 20-odd hours of Tim Gerard Reynolds' voice-over of the series I've come to adore (that is, here's to hoping for another sequel!).

The sound quality was a bit wonky at first

The sound started off poor, but soon went back to normal. The cycle of Galand books are my favourite series, and this one is up there with the best. I didn't want it to end, and can't wait for the next book.

possibly weakest out of otherwise fantastic books

while the performance was impeccable as always, there were a lot of out of nowhere plotholes and repeating, predictable plotlines

Yet another belter from Edward W Robertson!

I had been looking forward to this for months and was not disappointed. Dante and Blays are in the land of the Gods to attempt to win the spear of stars. Many challenges lay in their path which they must overcome all before The White Lich can conquer their world in the fallen lands. Excellent narration again by Tim Reynolds who has been consistent through all the books.

Still brilliant

I love these series of books. Narration is brilliant as always by TGR. Don’t normally write reviews as you can tell but I would recommend these to everyone. Blaze Buckler is the corniest funniest character
