In der Milchstraße schreibt man das Jahr 1470 Neuer Galaktischer Zeitrechnung (NGZ) - das entspricht dem Jahr 5057 christlicher Zeitrechnung. Das heimatliche Solsystem ist vor mehr als drei Monaten spurlos von seinem angestammten Platz im Orionarm der Milchstraße verschwunden. Damit die Liga Freier Terraner nicht ins Chaos sinkt, werden eine neue Regierung und ein neuer Zentralplanet gewählt. Neuer Erster Terraner wird Arun Joschannan - und er muss sich gegen die Infiltrationen durch die Truppen der negativen Superintelligenz QIN SHI zur Wehr setzen. In der weit entfernten Galaxis Escalian, dem "Reich der Harmonie", ist QIN SHI ebenfalls am Werk und versucht dort eine Invasion. TANE-DRAR, die in Escalian heimische Superintelligenz, hat die Gefahr erkannt. Sie beauftragt den Terraner Alaska Saedelaere damit, ihr zu helfen. Gemeinsam mit dem Zwergandroiden Eroin Blitzer begibt sich Alaska auf die Suche nach dem geheimnisvollen Konstrukteur Sholoubwa. Als er ihn endlich erreicht, wird er davongeschleudert - aber Blitzer kann noch die Lebensdaten Sholoubwas extrahieren. Am Anfang seiner Geschichte steht ein WETTSTREIT DER KONSTRUKTEURE...
