Publisher's Summary

High in the wooded, peaked mountains of Skeln, the woodsman, Dakeyras, and his beautiful daughter, Miriel, live a life of harmonious solitude.

Unbeknown to them, a group of grim-eyed, bloodthirsty warriors stalk the mountains. Men who have never known defeat, to whom revenge and torture are meat and drink. For 10,000 in gold they are eager to kill the woodsman.

Battle-hardened warriors all, they have no fear of this task - but they should have. For Miriel is a woman of fire and iron, skilled with bow and blade and taught her skills by one of the deadliest killers of all time: her father, Dakeyras, better known as Waylander the Slayer.

Great Adventure

At the time of his writing, David Gemmell was pushing the boundaries of the fantasy genre. Not only did he create great characters and story arcs, but he always invested a genuine human warmth and a feeling of hope into these stories. His heroes become archetypes in the battle of good vs evil, and he draws on the humanity of these heroes to differentiate the good from the bad. I have great admiration for his writings. I have always felt that this is one of Gemmells finest. His character archetypes and story telling really come together in this story. In my opinion Waylander II is a superior story to the the first book and it has always been one of my 4 favourite Gemmell novels. Legend, The Legend of Deathwalker, Waylander II & Morningstar.

Another great read.

I loved the story. Lots of action and adventure. Like all of David Gemmell's characters, they leap right from the pages. Gemmell writes such well-rounded characters, you laugh, cry and urge them on. l love the readers' voice, Sean Barret does an exceptional job of all Gemmel's books, Waylander is one of my favorite characters.

Beautiful story missing last chapter

Waylander II has long been one of my favorites. The story is Gemmell at his best, and this performance is excellent. However, the final chapter and epilogue are missing from this adaptation. The story ends on a flat note at the end of chapter 19. I highly recommend the original book, or the Kindle version. While I enjoyed this adaptation as far as it went, without the ending, I was very disappointed.

Do not buy: Incomplete recording

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

This would be a great book, if it was complete

Any additional comments?

The recording ends with several chapters still to go in the book

not nearly as good as the first

the first in the series was one of my favorite books in a long time. This installment didn't measure up in humor, character evolution and heart but it is a rather high bar and tough act to follow. id day it is worth a listen if not just to hear Sean Bartlett's incredible narration.

This audiobook is incomplete

What disappointed you about Waylander II?

The audiobook finished before the story ended. I have read the original book and it does not end like this - with about three strands of the story just left hanging

What was most disappointing about David Gemmell’s story?

The story itself was a great story up to the point where it just cut off.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance was fine - very good in fact

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Any additional comments?

You need to check the master recording - the last part of the story is missing

Made for each other

I get the impression that Sean Barrett loves reading these books, his performance brings so much emotion that it couldn't be otherwise. I've listened to other stories that may well be better than this one, but the combination of Gemmell and Barrett brings something that's greater than the sum of the parts. For those that enjoy hero and sword fantasy, this is really something special and highly recommended.

I Cannot Keep Alive Those I Love

After surviving the first book, Dakeyras has a chance at the happiness that has always eluded him since the slaughter of his first wife and son. He has found Danyal and the girls, and in an effort to put his past life behind him, he takes them far away. But, fate is a cruel master and his happiness is short lived. Soon he has to travel far as Zhu Chao of the Gothir is bringing the tribes together to destroy the Wolfsheadi. But they are a warrior people and will not be defeated easily as their battle song shouts to all: “Nadir are We: Youth born; Axe Wielders; Victors Still". David Gemmell’s books are never short on heroes or action but, sadly, there is always a price to pay and, in this case, it was his pebble in the moonlight.

My 3rd book of Mr Gemmell's

I've really enjoyed these audio books, the narrator brings it to life for me. And I've become a big fan of Waylander. Maybe as I'm an aging man, but I love his style and no nonsense approach to tackling problems. Someone needs a knife in the back, then that's what happens. Great and gritty fantasy book.
