Sie haben es sich in den Kopf gesetzt, den rechtmäßigen Erben dieses Steins zu ermitteln. Doch die Suche gestaltet sich alles andere als einfach, denn es scheint beinahe, als laste ein Fluch auf dem Stein. Es gelingt ihnen schließlich, einen Namen zu ermitteln: Frank Defoe. Doch dieser Mann ist nicht auffindbar. Bis Van Dusen und Hatch schließlich vor seinem Grabstein stehen. Danach jedoch kommt die Sache erst richtig in Fahrt, denn irgendjemand hat offenbar etwas dagegen, dass van Dusen weiter Fragen stellt.
