An einem schönen Frühlingsmorgen erwacht ein kleines Tier aus einem sehr langen Schlaf. Es hat nicht nur großen Hunger, sondern leider auch vergessen, was für ein Tier es überhaupt ist. Es ist grau wie eine Maus und hat einen buschigen Schwanz wie ein Eichhörnchen. Oder ist es vielleicht doch eine Ratte? Entschlossen macht sich das kleine Geschöpf auf, das Rätsel zu lösen. Doch all die anderen Tiere, die es trifft, sind ihm nie ganz ähnlich. Das kleine Tier gibt nicht auf. Schließlich ist es furchtbar wichtig zu wissen, wer man ist!
