Sommer, endlich Ferien. Die meisten Kinder sind verreist. Pupik nicht. Während seine Mutter die Fenster ihres kleinen Holzhauses blau streicht, beobachtet Pupik die Wolken und sehnt sich nach seinem Vater, der in Norwegen ist. Dort arbeitet er bei der Eisenbahn und legt Schienen. Im letzten Sommer hat der Vater Pupik hier ganz in der Nähe ihres Häuschens einen alten Eisenbahnwaggon gezeigt. Er steht versteckt im Wald. Und dieser Waggon ist verzaubert: Man kann mit ihm traumhaft weit reisen: in den Wilden Westen, nach Istanbul, Sibirien, England, Afrika, ja, sogar bis nach Norwegen...
