Publisher's Summary

Counter to traditional marketing wisdom, which tries to count, measure, and manipulate the spread of information, Seth Godin argues that information can spread most effectively from customer to customer, rather than from business to customer. Godin calls this powerful customer-to-customer dialogue the ideavirus. In Unleashing the Ideavirus, Godin examines how companies like Napster and Hotmail have successfully launched ideaviruses. He offers a recipe for creating your own ideavirus, and shows how businesses can use ideavirus marketing to succeed in a world that doesn't want to hear it anymore from traditional marketers.

Idea Virus

If you have a great product and you want to try a different approach to marketing it to the masses (well, your demographic) then you should get this book. O.K, so after you downloaded it you wil discover that the PDF written version is free (www.ideavirus.com) - you won't care though because to hear the book makes it all the more relevant. Seth inspires, educates and entertains and his book is like a good wine, it gets better each time you return to it.

Not a bad idea - but not at Viral Stage Yet

A good "idea" but not at Viral stage, at least yet.

Why?

Examples are fairly shallow, limited to those which are primarily about e-buisness anyway, and the style of presentation fails to capture the excite that is likely to gnerate much word-of-mouth from listener/reader to anyone else.

It was more basic than my expectation

I love many books written by Seth Godin. I got this audio-book to listen during my daily drive to work. The book disappointed me with very shallow talk. It didn't have in depth knowledge that I sought. Too basic, too short...

Michael U.

This is my second Seth Godin book, and well, I wasn't as impressed on this go around. It struggled to maintain my attention and grasp of what was being said. The overuse of the phrase "idea virus" was exhausting and garbled the meaning of the phrase.

You can hear the passion in Seth's voice, which was refreshing. Overall the narration was great.

I did learn quite a bit from this book but I can't say I would go around spreading his idea on this one.

Horrible

Do not waist your time. This book sounds like a late night infomercial.

The future of marketing

I really enjoyed this book. Godin is right on the money when he says your product, your idea has to replicate itself. I think Godin is ahead of his time and those that follow (creating ideaviruses) will do well!

Nice in theory hard to practice

Having read many of the books written by Seth Godin I have to say he does know his stuff. He writes in a manner that is easy to understand and he using examples both big and small to convey his points. In this book he talks about the "idea virus" which he compares to an influenza virus which is passes along by "sneezers". And if a sneezer is surrounded by influential people he can infect many more people who then in turn will infect others. Every company wants a marketing campaign like this but it certainly is difficult to obtain.

A good read with a lot of examples but as usual with this type of book the main themes are repeated heavily. A more practical marketing book which is also written by Seth Godin is called "Permission Marketing" I would suggest read them both but read "Permission Marketing" first.

Reading it made me buy the books mentioned in the programme. That is what a good marketing book is about.A real asset in my tool bag.
