Publisher's Summary

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

He’s seen something that could get him killed. But what?

Freddie Makin is a spy for hire. For a year he’s been watching Jiang Cheng, an academic whose life seems suspiciously normal. To Freddie it’s just a job: he never asks who’s paying him and why - until the day someone is sent to kill him, and suddenly the watcher becomes the watched.

On the run from whoever wants him dead, Freddie knows he must have seen something incriminating. The only trouble is, he has no idea what. Is the CIA behind all this - or does it go higher than that? Have his trackers uncovered his own murky past?

As he’s forced into a lethal dance across Vienna, Freddie knows one thing for sure: his only hope for survival is keeping the truth from the other side, and making sure the secrets from his past stay hidden.

Slow Moving Thriller

This I'd the second book that I have listened to.The first one moved a long quicker and with morecaction The characters were not developed well. There was a lot of moving through several locations and a mix of good guys and bad guys. I am going to try one more by Wignall. His prior book was well written and if moved quickly from action scenes to consolidating follow-ups. I have found almost all of the readers to be very professional and include pitch and excitement levels that match well with the dialogue.

Awful narration

This sing-song narration and squeaky voice was just awful to listen to. On top of the narrator sounded bored and unconvincing. Awful.

Good read

The story was suspensful and kept me interested in hearing the next part. How was Freddy going to get himself out of this jam?

Pretty good, but...

This book not as good as Traitor's Story, a Kevin Wignall book I read first. The plot is not nearly as complex. In fact, the plot was a bit thin. Perhaps that is because the book is to be made into a movie.

Otherwise, the story was interesting, as far as it goes. Narrator was fine.

Interesting - gains speed & depth as you read

First read of a Wignall book and I will continue with some others. The narrator is excellent.

This was Really excellent good book... with a gripping plot. Once I got past a rather complex beginning, the book captured me and I could not stop listening.

Easy, enjoyable listening

This book is saved from being a bit slow and tedious in parts by its excellent narrator George Newbern, who brings our hero Freddy to life and thus keeps the listener interested.

I really enjoyed this. It is beautifully read in an unassuming way that gratifyingly belies the plot, which as usual for Mr Wignall,

is elegantly pleasing whilst packing its punches.
