About this listen
Paralyzed by a drunk driver, let go from his job, and stuck in a sad, stagnant town in the middle of nowhere, Joseph Locke was having the worst day of his life.
And then he died.
But considering that he wakes up with a brand-new body, in the cockpit of a badass steampunk robot, on an airship of nothing but hot babes, his next life may not be all that bad. Especially when he learns that he’s a void mage—the rarest and most powerful of all mages on the world of Haven. And his shipmates want to help him make more.
As if that weren’t enough, they offer Locke a job piloting one of their mechs, which they call Titans. In the meantime, Locke has to learn his way around this exciting world, all while coming to grips with his new—and dangerous—occupation. Will he be able to master his Titan? How can he best upgrade the machine to become as badass as possible? Why’s a strange parasitic sludge falling from the sky? And what’s up with the ghost of a space witch living in his Titan—and inside his head?
Titan Mage is a fun steampunk fantasy adventure containing mechanics, airship captains, mech pilots, and adult language.

I think the source story has some odd bits lacking though. First off, we're beginning with a handicapped MC who has a bit of a raw deal in life and he's smart but not brilliant so moments of brilliance actually do come off as gutsy.
It's the small things that brings me out of whatever immersion that's being built because they feel so out of place. For example I get that the MC's inexperienced but... from Grassroots Kentucky to having people who are a bit uptight when it comes to...what? Male-female relations? Are we seriously commenting on the world in an escapist fantasy? Wait was he some social activist working in a construction job? Wait what? I don't get it - is our MC from some odd victorian upbringing? And what's this about considering himself a gentleman? Being polite?
Yeah. There's a few of these moments which make you go "Huh?" Not a lot. But they DO stick out.
Then there's the bits during combat where the characters are having a long discussion... during combat. No. I bring it up because whatever sense of danger or urgency that combat is supposed to invoke gets lost when, instead of observing the chaotic events happening in quick-time, you're instead having a long discussion with someone who's presumably in danger.
There's more but I'd be nit-picking.
But it's still good with an interesting setup.
interesting story with an overly tepid MC

Being relatively new to audible I found this story quite addictive and well performed by both Daryl and Jess. The story itself is a solid concept that plays a good role for the smut side of things to integrate seamlessly into the adventures of newly beloved characters. Can’t not wait for the rest of the story to become available.
Nothing like a saucy fantasy story for the weekend.

Decent premise ruined by juvenile sex.
