About this listen

The third Dragonriders of Pern novel from the New York Times best seller Anne McCaffrey.

There has never been a dragon quite like Ruth - he's small, agile, able to communicate with fire lizards and has an uncanny ability to know exactly when he is. His bond with the young Lord Holder Jaxom is uniquely strong thanks to their unlikely connection and the fact that nearly everybody else on Pern thought the diminutive dragon wouldn't survive to adulthood. With Jaxom set to inherit control of his Hold, the pair is banned from fighting Thread, their flying time strictly limited at the insistence of the Weyrleaders and Lord Holders.

Stuck halfway between the Holds and Weyrs, Jaxom and Ruth decide to train in secret, learning how to fight Thread and how to fly through time. Their illicit flights seem like a small rebellion against the expectations of their elders, until they find themselves in the path of danger and in a position to prevent the biggest disaster of all....

Anne McCaffrey never disappoints. And White Dragon is no exception. While I didn’t love the change of narrator at the start, I soon realised why it was necessary. Loved the story, how it rounded out so many of the story arcs, and gave a big view to the future. Loved the new narrator. Great all round.

What an ending!

I love this book, it's my favorite of all the Peen series.
some of the voices could have been more intelligent sounding but in all really enjoyable.

Good story that was read well, the only annoyance being the slight fluctuations in volume.

We loved hearing about the white dragon and his rider. The character development and story development is so rich.

Just as good as when I first read it, 20 plus years ago.
I think this story from Pern, is one of my favourites, probably because Jaxom and Ruth need each other, and their relationship is more developed. Truly amazing writing that has stood the test of time, and interpreted beautifully by the narrator!

Timeless excellence!

Having read this book before, I did struggle with the audio voices to begin with, but stick with it, as you get used to them it's really worth it!

Loved it!
