Publisher's Summary
A Warhammer Horror audio drama.
A ship becalmed in space needs repairs. Fortunately, a nearby watch station offers refuge. Surely nothing can go wrong for the crew of the Fortune's Favour?
Listen to it because: Atmospheric, tense, terrifying...it's an audio experience tailor-made to chill you, and from the opening drama to the tense conclusion, you'll be on the edge of your seat.
The story: In the midst of a vast gas nebula lies a remote watch-station, hanging silently against a tapestry of dying stars. It sits alone, patiently awaiting lost travellers adrift in the freezing vastness of the void. To such souls it appears as a blessing, a safe haven from the warp storms that wrack the immaterium and destroy the ships of those foolish enough to test the tides.
To Captain Arq and her crew, it is one thing - refuge. But things are never so simple.
Written by Rachel Harrison. Running time approx. 77 minutes. Performed by Grace Andrews, Steve Conlin, Matthew Hunt, Jonathan Keeble, Carla Mendonca, Colleen Prendergast, David Seddon and David Sibley.

Great story yet it has a familiar vibe
There is no way around it "Event Horizon" comes to mind in this story. Wether it served as inspiration for this or not, it does not matter. It has that feel and its not bad. I love it it and hope to hear more similar stories to this. I got this to play in the background as I was painting some of my 40K miniatures and had low expectations. I started hearing late at night and it was pretty creepy at times. Definitely well made, the voice actors where awesome and I was able to visualize what was going on. I ended up taking a break from my painting in various moments. Real entertaining and awesome. Again it does have similarities to Event Horizon aka Haunted House in Space vibe but its perfect for this setting.Everyone has there opinions and different tastes, I enjoyed this for sure.

Shorter than I expected, but extremely well done
My first jump into the Warhammer 40k universe, and what a landing I made. The story, by Rachel Harrison, is superb - well contained - considering it's not a long novel, but with enough character information that you can piece together backstories, Excellent voice performances and narration. I purchased two other Warhammer 40k books - which are much more "meatier" of material and number of characters involved (Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work (Novel) by Guy Haley to name one) also on Audible, but this story is so satisfying, I've probably listened to it more than 30 times - Audible you'll have to give me a count of all the times I've replayed it, I'm sure it's much more. Perfect commute book with ambiance. Side note: I'm a huge Alien fan and have purchased many Audible books, three of which had voiced FANTASTIC ensemble voice actors with audio special effects - actually came to mind several times reading this book. Strong Captain? Check Unbalanced 2nd in Command? Check, Weird horror? Not a Xenomorph, but certain descriptions of Zenos from the past sure sounded close. Great book! Just remember its the content NOT the length of this book to keep in mind when spending that credit. Only the light will lead to refuge!

Dead in Space...ahem, like...you know...???
The usual high quality of acting, though I wish the use of modern day regional accents which are becoming more common in 40K dramas could be toned down. There's no need for representation of Planet Scotland, Planet Cockney or Planet Geordie-it doesn't make it all more inclusive for listeners in those places, just a bit cringey and daft. Other than that the voice acting is good.
The story itself is very reminiscent of certain aspects of Dead Space-even the voices of one of the characters is close enough to think the producers of this had used the same filter. Still, it rolls along at a good old pace and I never once found myself loosing interest. The sound effects are good and help build the world, as does the occasional snippet of music. It's all very Grim Dark without a single space marine in sight-sort of Hammer House actually.
Well worth the price.

For one instant, it looked to be different
...but it ended up predictable, in every way. A pity, as there was a prime opportunity for one of the protagonists to do something positive. The voices were, occasionally, over sampled and the sound effects drowned the actors’ words now and again. Worth a listen, but disappointing.
