It was achingly good to be back in this world again, and even better to get inside Valek's head this time. The narrator took a little getting used to, he gave the characters more flare than the humour I picked up from them reading the books myself but by the end I enjoyed it

I think this story will appeal equally to fans of the existing series, and new readers alike. It doesn’t assume any prior knowledge, and makes for an enjoyable listen.
It has been several years since I read poison study, so my memories were a little vague.. reading Valeks perspective was a nice way to rediscover the world of ixia.

The narration is a little over dramatic for my taste, but this is a minor quibble, I would happily listen to more stories from these characters!

I really enjoyed getting to hear Valek’s story as I absolutely loved Poison Study (it’s one of my all time favourites) and Maria definitely didn’t disappoint.

I have been waiting for this rendition of the story of Yelena and Valek’s complex and beautiful relationship since I was 14!

This story gives fans of poison study everything you could have asked for and is presented by a strong and emotive voice.

The only downslide is how the voice artist sounded a little bit overly delicate and breathy when narrating Yelena’s spoken lines, but that is common in deep male voices and did not take away from the joy of listening to this story.

Thank you Maria V Snyder for bringing Valek to life and giving his character true depth and presence. And also filling in those moments when Yelena was straining to understand or comprehend what he was thinking or feeling.

Highly recommended! I’m off to listen to The Study Of Magic next!
