Publisher's Summary

A sweeping tale of love and loss, the epic saga of the Seven Sisters begins here. From Lucinda Riley, the international number one bestselling author.

Read by Tuppence Middleton (Thirty Days in Paris, The Doll Factory).

Maia D’Aplièse, in her early thirties, gathers together with her five sisters at their childhood home: a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva. They have been told that their beloved adoptive father, the elusive billionaire they call Pa Salt, has died.

Each of them is handed a tantalising clue to their true heritage – a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil . . .

Eighty years earlier, in the Belle Époque of Rio, 1927, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into aristocracy. But Izabela longs for adventure, and convinces him to allow her to accompany the family of a renowned architect on a trip to Paris. In the heady, vibrant streets of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.

The Seven Sisters is the first book in the spellbinding Seven Sisters series, inspired by the mythology of the famous star constellation. It is followed by The Storm Sister.

Great story!

A slow start, but a great story that kept me interested, and well narrated. I enjoyed the duality of the stories of Maia and Izabela. While there were parts that were predictable, there were enough twists to keep me engaged and wondering what would happen next. I'm thinking the rest of the series will take me to different countries at other important historical points in time, which will be interesting too.

Surprise!

I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t know what to expect. At first I was a little confused with the name and the fact there were only 6 sisters but that was explained early on. I was also expecting rather different responses to their father’s death given Mia was apprehensive about telling them all, but their reactions were similar, only their lives different.

I thought Mia’s discovery of her great grandmother and her life was excellent, in depth and intriguing. I enjoyed both Isabella and Mia’s stories very much.

I am looking forward to the subsequent books in the series.

A tedious listen

I tried to get into this audio, but found it very hard going. Very “Mills & Boon” with the female characters positively saccharine. The women were willingly subservient to the males in the book - both in the period set 80 years ago, and in the present setting. Not my idea of entertainment at all. With 18 hours of boring listening ahead of me, I decided to spend my time doing other things.

Tedious

Tedious story line, terrible accents, characters are shallow, naive and terrible traits. Could not finish the book, disappointed

Cringey accents and a story that puts feminism back 100 years. Skip it!

A pretty horrendous portrayal of a pretty horrendous book. Honestly have no idea where all the positive reviews come from.

my expectations were too high

Maybe other people talked it up too much for me, because it didn't meet my expectations. it was still a nice book to enjoy, just not fantastic. I learned a lot about the 'Christ the redeemer' statue in Reo, so that was definitely a bonus for me. Overall, I felt it was a bit slow.
