Publisher's Summary

A smart and gripping tale of conspiracy, murder and espionage in Elizabethan London. Treason sleeps for no man....

London, 1591. Nicholas Shelby, physician and reluctant spy, returns to his old haunts on London's lawless Bankside. But when the queen's spymaster Robert Cecil asks him to investigate the dubious practices of a mysterious doctor from Switzerland, Nicholas is soon embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens not just the life of an innocent young patient but the overthrow of Queen Elizabeth herself.

With fellow healer and mistress of the Jackdaw tavern Bianca Merton again at his side, Nicholas is drawn into a dangerous world of zealots, charlatans and fanatics. As their own lives become increasingly at risk, they find themselves confronting the greatest treason of all: the spectre of a bloody war between the faiths....

Interesting series

Another interesting book by this author. Historical fiction is a favourite of mine and the author is adept at drawing well rounded characters who fit well in the time period.

Similar to bk1 but still good

I enjoyed the Angels Mark as I like this period of History and I have got to know and like the characters. It is well written and lots of action in there. Plenty of ‘who controls who?’ type twists. Not annoyingly soppy and heartfelt at the same time is not an easy balance to strike. Similar but not the same as Angels Mark. I will be looking out for the other books in the series. It is well read on audible. Recommended especially to Toby Clements and CJ Samsom fans.

Second in the series - couldn't resist it!

Really enjoyed this book. Couldn't wait to listen after the first one & not at all disappointed. I hadn't liked the narrator at first but I'm so pleased he has done all three books. He does a very good job. These are long books and well worth purchasing but I would strongly recommend reading them in order. Off to start no three

excellent twisted plot

I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this series, the narrator is excellent and the plot line makes you wonder how everyone is going to get out of the tangled mess they manage to get themselves into

Another gripping installment

I enjoyed this second installment of the exploits of doctor Shelby as he gets embroiled in conspiracies aided by the indomitable friend Bianca. It's fast-paced and exciting listen. I've already downloaded book 3.
The narrator is excellent able to give the characters different voices.

Another superb reading

Kris Dyer is one of the best narrators of Audio books. His ability to recall the voice of each character as the story proceeds is nothing short of amazing. There is nothing off-putting in his performance and he paces it beautifully.

The book itself was another wonderful piece of fiction with the added benefit of historical references that allow the reader (or listener) to imagine the era in which the story is set in such a descriptive way that one could almost be there.

I have loved both of The Jackdaw Mysteries books and very much look forward to more adventures. If you like Historical mysteries and fiction, I heartily recommend this and ‘The Angel’s Mark’.
