About this listen

This history is a stunning introduction to House Targaryen, the iconic family at the heart of HBO and Sky’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.

For hundreds of years, the Targaryens sat the Iron Throne of Westeros while their dragons ruled the skies. The story of the only family of dragonlords to survive Valyria’s Doom is a tale of twisty politics, alliances and betrayals, and acts both noble and craven. The Rise of the Dragon chronicles the creation and rise of Targaryen power, covering the history first told in George R. R. Martin’s epic Fire & Blood, from Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros through to the infamous Dance of the Dragons – the bloody civil war that nearly undid their rule for good.

The Targaryens – and their dragons – come vividly to life in this audiobook, which includes a bonus supplement packed with all-new artwork.

Perfect for fans steeped in the lore of Westeros, as well as those who first met the Targaryens in the HBO and Sky TV series House of the Dragon, The Rise of the Dragon provides a must-have overview for anyone looking to learn more about the most powerful family in Westeros.

Recycled material from Fire and Blood. It is a quality audiobook, shorter time to finish than Fire and Blood but it is very much the exact same story but in a different less extensive coat. If you're going to spend a credit on one book for the month, give this one a skip unless you're a die-hard fan who wants to find what small differences there are between this and Fire and Blood. Only recommend for those who don't want to commit to a longer audiobook.

I wish Harry Lloyd read all the books! He has done a fantastic job on this one just like the dunk and egg books

The reading

Loved the narrator but if you’ve read fire and blood this book is just the shorted version of that, was cool revisiting this era and the before and after the dance of the dragons but This does feel like more of a cash grab riding the hype of HotD

Repeat of fire and blood

I managed to make it through the whole book hoping it would add something that wasn't in fire in blood which I had already purchased. I was left disappointed. The narration was great though.

Fire and blood but shorter
