Muscle building and fat loss after forty aren’t nearly as complicated as you’ve been led to believe. You don’t need to: Obsess over “clean eating” and avoiding “bad” or “unhealthy” foods like sugar, meat, and bread. Some foods are just more nutritious than and should be eaten more frequently than others. You don’t need to: Spend a couple of hours in the gym every day grinding through punishing strength training workouts. Those are just a few of myths that keep people over forty from ever achieving the lean, toned, and strong body they truly desire.

Many of us dream of staying as young as possible as long as possible whether we're in our 30s, 40s, 70s or even 80s, and there's a growing Conga line of products and people offering you just that dream. The dilemma is, which of the pills, mental and physical exercise programs, diets and superfoods actually work? Some of them do help to keep us young, healthy and living longer, others may work when the researchers get the potions right and some are a downright waste of money. So how do you know what and who to trust?

Perfect Resource for Beginners
I began strength training at my local gym about a month ago after finding the Mind Pump podcast. I have already started to notice an improvement in my overall health, but I needed more direction for the long term. I was very excited to hear that Sal was releasing a book, and was not disappointed! The audio is only a few hours long, but packed full of tons of great information. I appreciate that he does not "fluff" the book with tons of unnecessary info. The book gives very practical information which I believe can be easily adapted to any person, regardless of fitness level or expertise. Definitely a great all-around guide to fitness and long term health!
A little bit of background about me, for those interested: I am a 28 year old female, who was athletic for most of my life and never had problems with weight. After graduating college and starting a career, life got busy and I found myself gaining a few pounds a year despite my level of activity being more than average (I'm on my feet at work all day, and like to mountain bike, hike, etc. in my spare time).
I discovered I was overweight for the first time last year at a doctor's appointment, and went on my first calorie restricted diet in my life (but was not exercising much due to COVID). After a few months I lost about 15 lbs and plateaued... HARD. I decided to accept the weight I was at and go back to maintenance calories but within several months I had gained every pound back.
After that experience, I knew something was wrong, and I was looking for a different approach to weight loss that doesn't destroy the metabolism. I think I have found the right way, in strength training and in this book.
Although my journey is still in progress, I am very happy with the results thus far and can't wait to apply Sal's book to my workout routine. I will try to update my review later with results. I am just so grateful that there is a resource like this out there! Thank you!

Breaking preconceived notions
I am not reading much in this space as I thought my understanding to training was ok. I embark on a goal early this year to get leaner but got stuck on my weight for 2 months without results (visible too), and going to the gym 6 times a week… I thought I needed to pause and look for answers. I bumped into the MindPump podcast, then headed to Sal’s website and Amazon for this book. What a book!! Completely changed my understanding to training. Very good all around, intuitive nutrition, calorie intake, training approach, how often, etc I am now going through unlearning my learning and rebuild my whole approach to training. Early to give a result as I have started 2 weeks ago but looking forward to seeing some change. Will see 😁

Good book for people new to mindpump
Enjoyed listening to this even tho it seems like all points covered in it has been discussed at length in the podcast for free. I'd still recommended tho to have all those points in one place for reference
