About this listen

She was never meant to be a member of the Culling. He was never supposed to find his mate. Fate stepped in to ensure both.

There was only one reason the bond would choose Emery Montgomery. Her twin was dead. As soon as the silver band of the Culling appeared on her wrist, binding her to the vampire prince himself, her world turned upside down.

Forced to compete for the heart of her enemy in an archaic version of The Bachelor, Emery had only three things on her mind: Keep her witch heritage a secret, find her sister's murderer, and above all, don't fall for the sinfully handsome prince.

August Nicholson wanted nothing to do with the pompously groomed women in his Culling, that was, until Emery showed up. She was unlike any other, calmed the dark twisted side of him few knew existed.

Instantly drawn to her, August must struggle against her intoxicating presence, because while he may want her for himself, he needs her to play her part to protect his family more.

Together, Emery and August must fight their feelings and find the culprit behind her twin's murder, because if the Montgomery women were being hunted, Emery was next.

Contains mature themes.

This book gave me anxiety in the best way. I was invested in the story from the get go but it just kept getting better and better. I'll be buying everything this author ever writes.

The Replacement by K.M. Reeves earns a solid 4/5 for its gripping plot and atmospheric tension. From the start, Reeves crafts a compelling premise—an ordinary life is disrupted by something chillingly uncanny, pulling you in with each page-turn. His prose is punchy and well-paced, weaving in just enough detail to keep the story vivid yet swift, perfect for both casual and dedicated thriller readers.

What holds this novel back from a perfect score is its character development. Many of the cast feel a bit too transparent—what you see is what you get. There’s little to no subtext lurking beneath the surface, which means the psychological dimension of the book could’ve been richer. I wanted more layers, more secrets simmering just below, to truly unsettle me and provoke deeper thought.

That said, Reeves redeems himself with a final act that delivers on intrigue. Without spoiling anything, the ending flips expectations enough to make me eager for the sequel. That twist, combined with the understated creepiness of the setup, ensures I’m definitely coming back to see where the story goes next.

In short, The Replacement is a taut and satisfying thriller with just enough mystery at the end to leave you craving more—just wish the characters had matched the cunning of the plot.

The replacement there is enough to make me want to listen to book two
