About this listen

Ambitious Daily Sentinel journalist Lauren King is chaffing on LA’s vapid social circuit, reporting on glamorous A-list parties while sparring with her rival - the formidable, icy Catherine Ayers. Ayers is an ex-Washington political correspondent who suffered a humiliating fall from grace, and her acerbic, vicious tongue keeps everyone at bay. Everyone, that is, except knockabout Iowa girl King, who is undaunted and unimpressed and gives as good as she gets.

One night a curious story unfolds before their eyes: one political launch, 34 prostitutes and a palette of missing pink champagne. Can the warring pair work together to unravel an incredible story?

This is a lesbian fiction with more than a few mysterious twists.

This is my first book reading from this author and I wasn’t disappointed at all. There’s a difference in writing versus other lesbian story writers that I can’t quite pin point but I surely love. Definitely worth reading ❤️

Horrible narration. Usually love listening to audiobooks but the narration is distracting and makes it difficult to keep up with the story.

Ticks all the boxes: enemies to lovers, rich ice queen meets her home town girl match, action and intrigue against rogue agents. it's Lee Winter at her best!

Firey and fiesty!

I loved how the mystery unfolded, with the relationship between the two leads slowly developing. Thrilling and romantic!

A great twisty mystery!

This is a clever unravelling of a mystery which begins with odd, intriguing, but seemingly pointless happenings at a business launch party stuffed with politicians. Some journalists sniff a story but, as they investigate, they struggle to understand what kind of story they are following.

The narration is good, it doesn’t intrude. The classic Lee Winter ice queen is a touch too icy for my taste as she dishes out the put downs, but a reasonable explanation is given for her behaviour toward the end. Whoever said it wasn’t original has clearly not actually listened to the audio book.

Twisty original story, good fun

Written by the marvellous Lee Winter, this book has themes that are chillingly still relevant, it’s eerie to read about matters that are still frighteningly current ten years later. The intrigue and mystery in this story has at its heart an ingenious plot that keeps you on your toes the whole time. Two brilliant leads, the ice queen Catherine Ayers and the ingenue reporter Lauren King, race around Nevada and L.A. finding the truth behind a hidden government (or not) agenda.

An intriguing mystery

I wasn't expecting anything ground breaking but some originality or depth in the characters would've been great.
