He took you and you have been his for five years. But you have been careful. Waiting for him to mess up. It has to be now.

Aidan Thomas is a hardworking family man and a respected member of his community. He's the kind of man who always lends a hand and has a good word for everyone. He's also a kidnapper and serial killer who has murdered eight women. And there's a ninth, a woman he calls Rachel, imprisoned in a backyard shed where she fears for her life.

When Aidan's wife dies, he and his thirteen-year-old daughter, Cecilia, are forced to move. Aidan has no choice but to bring Rachel too, introducing her to Cecilia as a family friend who needs a place to stay. He knows that after five years of captivity, Rachel is too frightened of the consequences to attempt to escape. But Rachel is a fighter and a survivor. And when Emily, a local restaurant owner, develops a crush on the handsome widower, she finds herself drawn into Rachel and Cecilia's orbit, coming dangerously close to discovering Aidan's secret.

The Quiet Tenant explores the psychological impact of Aidan's crimes on the women in his life through the voices of Rachel, Cecilia, and Emily - and the bonds between those women that give them the strength to fight back. Both a searing thriller and an astute study of trauma, survival, and the dynamics of power, The Quiet Tenant is an electrifying novel by a major talent.©2023 Clemence Michallon (P)2023 Hachette Audio UK

Story was way too drawn out, could have been shorter. Overall enjoyable and I finished it.

Enjoyable

Finally I chose a decent book here on audible.... The narration was ok, didn't distract too much... Great story, loved getting the POV from the different characters. Looking forward to the authors next book.

Loved it from start to finish

Extremely talented writer, and I will no doubt read another of her novels. I just feel like so much was left untold. No spoilers, but I needed way more story on the MAN. So much poured into Emily, an almost unbearable character I feared was going to be just as sinister but instead is just desperately trying to be happy. But…. Then it ends. No why, no justice, no delicious male voice at the end explaining his foul deeds. Few wasted opportunities. And it just saddens me that these events actually do happen. That’s what’s scary.

Great parts but a few times I wanted to scream

There is plenty to appreciate about this book but ultimately it’s an unconvincing read. The adult themes are delivered in a PG rating making it a big cop out. The conclusion was perfunctory.

Horrific situation without any horror

I found it to be dragged too much. Otherwise it was fine. I enjoyed it.

It was good

I really liked the unique premise of this story and that we got to hear from the multiple victims but I thought this could have been capitalised upon better. At times, the narrative dragged with long, drawn out descriptions and the ending was somewhat disappointing for me. Overall though, I did enjoy this book and would listen to it again if I had my time over.

Unique premise

Mixed reviews online …but I liked it! Definitely one to keep you engaged in listening …will she escape? Will someone else die? I had to listen to the end! The prose was a little flowery and cringe, and I would love more of the psychological dissection- from all characters - but all in all, money well spent. Enjoyable!

A page turner. At least to find out..what happens?

I loved the characters- all I would have liked is to hear a bit more from the villain !

Enjoyed listening to it
