Story
A cease-fire in the war with Hanover leaves Lieutenant Alexis Carew on half-pay, in-atmosphere, and with her ship laid up in ordinary until called upon once more for the needs of the Service. It would be a tranquil, peaceful life, if not for the influx of asteroid miners seeking their fortunes, the uncertainties of her inheritance, and the nagging certainty that her current life is not what she really wants. She’d give anything to command a ship again.

Story
For Lieutenant Alexis Carew, it should be the perfect assignment - a command of her own and a chance to return to her home star system. What she finds is a surly crew, the dregs of every frigate and ship of the line to pass through on the way to the war's front, a first officer who thinks the command should have been his, and colonial worlds where they believe a girl's place is somewhere very different than command of a Queen's starship.

Story
At 15, Alexis Carew has to face an age old problem - she's a girl, and only a boy can inherit the family's vast holdings. Her options are few. She must marry and watch a stranger run the lands, or become a penniless tenant and see the lands she so dearly loves sold off. Yet there may be another option, one that involves becoming a midshipman on a shorthanded spaceship with no other females.

Just as Midshipman Alexis Carew thinks she's found a place in the Royal Navy, she's transferred aboard H.M.S. Hermione. Her captain is a Tartar, liberal with the cat, who thinks girls have no place aboard ship. The other midshipmen in the berth are no better and the only advice she's offered is to keep her head down and mouth shut - things Alexis is rarely able to do.

Story
The galaxy’s worst bounty hunter just might be its most relentless hero. Esper Richelieu is a wizard with a mission: To make the galaxy a better place one lost soul at a time. Donning the trappings of an interstellar bounty hunter, she delves into the galaxy’s underworld to search out those most in need of help. Whether it’s a teenage runaway or an actor kidnapped by cultists, the victim comes first. Money is an afterthought. That confuses a lot of clients. But sometimes the best way to get someone to accept the help they need is to convince them to pay for it.

Completely redeems Privateer
I was so disappointed in the cliffhanger ending of Privateer, that I only reluctantly purchased The Queen's Pardon. I enjoyed it so much that it changed my opinion of Privateer just by association. The first two books in the series made me love Alexis. This book reminds why.

A younger Honor Harrington with a British flair
Elizabeth Kent has a lovely voice that fits and drives this dark space sailing ships story. You are almost able to see the hardships and excitement the sailors and Officers mentioned are having. From start to finish your imagination flows with the ships in dark space as if it was water and the smile touching your lips as you find your Imagination filling in the gaps and seeing the characters as they live and die for their fellows and ships and Queen at the orders of their Officers. You can feel the good and bad of each character and follow their actions or inaction to each problem as it arises. As with any book some will like reading or listening and others will not. Who knows maybe Alexis will finally accept the vile thing as a friend and it her.

One of the best universe you may escape into.
The science, or rather the science fiction, of this series is off putting for those seeking pleasure in potential future technologies. However, any such displeasure is clearly their loss. The characters come to life and richly reward the reader, or listener, with a well developed universe that reflects British naval sensibilities from the times of life under sail. If you seek fully developed, and internally consistent, story telling, then you will embrace this series as the pleasure it is. One also will enjoy the outstanding qualities of the narration.

The Queen’s Pardon I really enjoyed it.
The only disappointment was that some of the characters of Privateer seemed to be abandon and the book took on a different style. Left me feeling that some how it wasn’t the same story. I think it would have been better if they had met back up. Still in all I really enjoyed it. With its twist. Some twist been sad other for the better.

The best yet
This book is the best yet in a series that started out with a light, fun read. From there the series morphed to take on the serious concepts of duty and loyalty and where their various forms come into conflict. Many of these books explore historical incedents in a future where the methods of space travel (and the nostolgia of admittedly insane cultural founders) have forced societal realities similar to those of the Napoleonic era. This book, and the series in general, takes from history and the best literature about the era and propels it into space.
