Story
The history of China is complex - perhaps, more complex than that of other nations. The ethnic groups that compose China go back to prehistoric times, and each group lent its own color to the enormous nation. It is not like a diluted mixture of all its cultures; rather, it is a collage. Yet, there are immutable elements still present today. Rice originated in China, and so did stir-frying.

The one character trait that, sometimes, surpasses the human instinct for survival is curiosity. When humans discovered an entire hemisphere that lay beyond their own Eastern Hemisphere, the race was on. What opportunities would these new lands hold? Surely, a small country in Europe could wield the power of an empire if it could claim these new lands in the Americas.

Story
For most of human existence, people lived in a somewhat similar fashion. Everything that has been produced, from food and raw materials to clothing and other finished products, has been done either solely by hand or with some help of animal power. This was the same across the eras and throughout the world, no matter how advanced or backward the various civilizations were. Yet, our lives today couldn’t be more different.
Publisher's Summary
If you want to discover the captivating history of the Quakers, then pay attention...
Many other mainline Christians viewed the Quakers as a dangerous sect, so much so that they pressured the British Parliament to pass the Quaker Act of 1662. This act set forth in law the “prescribed form” of prayer and worship as designated by the state. It was a formula that specifically left the traditions of the Quakers out.
Unable to gain acceptance in England, the Quakers would soon leave the place of their origin altogether and try their luck in a brave new world on another continent.
In The Quakers: A Captivating Guide to a Historically Christian Group and How William Penn Founded the Colony of Pennsylvania in British North America, you will discover topics such as:
- The Quakers Arrive in America
- William Penn Comes to the Quaker Faith
- William Penn’s Holy Experiment
- William Penn, Pennsylvania, and Its Quaker Legacy
- The State of Quakerism After William Penn

Quaker Oats
This is an excellent initiation to the Quakers and makes the browser aware that the Quaker idea is complex it might resemble at first sight. The writer takes a global approach to the development of the tradition which emphasizes the differences between British and American Quakerism, as well as the Quaker tradition in other parts of the world. British anthologies' strength finds this a little frustrating particularly if they were expecting an introduction that adjusted to British Quakerism.

A fascinating look at The Quaker's.
There were some interesting things about Quakers that I thought about including that they have various offshoots and that they practiced equality between male and female portions from the founding of the sect and that they were necessary for the civil war and the underground railroad.

Excellent little intro into Quakers
I have recently started attending a Quaker meeting on Sundays (church services). We wanted to know more about Quakers, I haven't seen it yet, but he doesn't compose reviews, so I'm signing one for him. He found it to be a quick listen that gave him exactly what he wanted, an intro to the Quakers, their beliefs, and history.

Absolutely Wonderful listening
I listen to it in one sitting because I couldn't set it aside. The history of the Quakers is long and varied. This audible tried to show how different the Quakers viewed their relationship with God; individuals could have a direct relationship with God without a church, ministers, or hierarchy. Each person could find the light of God within the self; thus, all life was valuable and to be protected.

Quakers in these United States
The Quakers is a but illuminating history of the Quakers who established themselves in England as a result of King Charles the First’s active conflict with the members of Parliament who sought to limit the scope of his authority. This fractured English society with citizens and the military splintering into the two sides.

Captivating Guide
This was an audiobook recommended to me. I did enjoy the content, I found some of the descriptions of the locale striking. The detectives and the crimes were well done. I believe they were based on a real criminal. The satire at the end of the story was indeed a surprise. All in all a good work.

The Quakers in America is too focused

Great story of little known chapter of America
This is a fascinating story of a lesser-known chapter of American, and world, history. It covers Quakers from their modest beginnings as an outlying holy sect in mid-1600s England, through the present-day Society of Friends. Although never huge in numbers, they were quite effectual in early American history, including the remarkable William Penn and the founding of Pennsylvania.
