Based on a true story of Puritan persecution

Based on the true story of John and Elizabeth Bunyan, this is a gripping story of hardship and how God uses it for His glory.

Good but not greay

Sometimes the narrator makes or breaks the audio book, and it's difficult to tell how much, in the times it falls short, is due to the immaturity of the writing and how much is due to the inability of the narrators inability to adequately portray the characters. I thought both the author and narrator were good, but not great. The plot and story were good, but could have been developed more, and some of the dialogue was insignificant and boring. The narrator did not use the English accent the Characters would have spoken in, and her performance was not outstanding. When the narrator is painting the picture for you, is important to paint it well so you imagine it according to the story. I am glad I listened to it.

Historical Romance

I enjoyed listening to this book. I felt the performance was wonderfully done. I didn't realize until the end that this book was loosely based on John Bunyun. It was a bit melancholy throughout. I didn't care for the hero much because I felt he wasn't that loving and caring toward his family. He came across very stern to me. however, he had at times exhibited some tenderness. The heroine was a saint to me. she was so good and giving and a very hard worker. I did enjoy the historical aspects of this book very much. And
The ending did turn out to be a happy ending.

A time in history I don't know much about

A time in history I don't know much about, namely about the Puritans in England, but was fascinated to learn. Great story based on real people. I really enjoyed it.

This skeptic converted

I will admit, I hate to jump on any kind of book bandwagon, and when all my friends started raving about this book I thought-- yeah, probably not for me. But then I started reading Jody Hedlund's blog and she really knows the craft of writing and I thought...maybe I ought to give her book a read, even though there was a "bonnet" on the cover. I am so glad I read this. What an amazing story. When you start reading, you think, how can a story about a breadmaker's daughter be exciting- but the story takes off quickly and then you're hooked. This was an incredible read and I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Did not enjoy this book or reader

This book is set in England. The reader has a very plain all American tone, it just doesn't fit with the story setting at all. I do not feel the writer "wrote" to the potential this story has, being that it is based on actual people and historical events. Things just didn't add up for me, but if you are not a stickler for historical accuracy than this might be a good choice for you. It is based on wonderful characters and an interesting time in history. As for me, I just couldn't finish it.
