Publisher's Summary

For a decade, Angel Salvatore has been the most powerful sorcerer and only necromancer in all the Northeast. Never one to ask permission nor apologies, he has acted with near impunity for years.

The High Council of Sorcery has come to Boston, and Angel is their target. Charged with numerous violations of practitioner laws, his freedom and family are placed in jeopardy.

If found guilty, Angel's apprentice Daniel will be imprisoned to serve out the remaining years of his apprenticeship. Isaac, his brother, is too vulnerable to be left unguarded, and Angel fears for his sanity and health. And Simeon, Elder vampire and Angel's mate, refuses to see Angel convicted under the laws of the Council and his actions to keep Angel free threaten to start a war that could destroy their world. And Angel faces the severest of punishments - the castration of his gifts.

Dealing with an impending trial, a wayward ghost, and a grave-robbing ring of thieves leaves Angel on the edge. He thinks he may have a handle on things until violence erupts across the city, and a stranger comes to town...a stranger with his own dark powers of necromancy.

Contains mature themes.

Brilliant!

The series just keeps getting better and better. Although Angel acknowledges his anger is better, his wonderful snark remains alive and well. Spoiler: I have to wonder now if Batiste will ever want a second elder again. Joel Leslie gave another stellar performance. I’m so ready for book 4 to come out in audio, but I know it will be months. :-( If you haven’t read or listened to this series, do it now, but keep them in order.

AMAZING

AMAZING!!! Another great add to the series. Each book keeps getting better and better, Angel and Simeon are fantastic. Another twisted and crazy story here that I couldn't stop reading. Joel Leslie hits a 10 out of 10 this time too! Angel and Simeon have grown so much since book 1 and I couldn't keep the smile off my face listening about how much they are one now. Their bond is evolving even more with more surprises coming. Leslie's voice gives each of these POV's (Angel, Simeon, Isaac, Daniel and Eroch) the perfect personality and tone, flow brilliantly with each scene and we get a deeper look into each. Old favorites like Milly, O'Malley and Ruairí (Rory) show up of course and I can't wait for the next to hear more of Joel Leslie.

Worst in series. Too try hard. Less romantic.

This book immediately is my least favorite. It doesn't have as strong of a grab in the beginning and it just feels 'off' It attempts to tackle big subject matters too often and when it does it doesn't feel well written enough to get away with it. Immediately it tackles alcohol abuse, but it feels spoon fed and tacked onto the story because it was difficult to care about it when the build up just wasn't there to develop any care for that situation. Then it tackles sexual abuse, but again it doesn't ease into the subject matter, it feels abrupt and just isn't well written enough to pull off believably. Then it tackles trying to normalize asking about pronouns. It feels so jarring and strange because the series just never even hints at caring about stuff like that and then tacks it on when meeting a androgynous character. I fall into this category in respect to gender and being appropriate towards it being trans and I just could have done without it being tacked on so poorly. It felt carelessly force fed more then respectful. The romance is very tacked in this time too. It follows the same 2 primary main characters that we are used to, some sweet things sprinkled in here and there but you can definitely feel the focus move off romance and into the plot. The plot however is having a lot to be desired as i found myself too bored to care. Its too bad this book ended up being such a flop, the last few books in the series were so good! I won't be picking up the next books in this series, I think the series lost its steam and at this point feels milked. I'm baffled with what appealed to people in this book with all these high reviews. Maybe spending more time with familiar characters is what I can think of that's probably appealing to a majority of people. I felt detached after this book though as it's poor pacing causes it to lose steam too often now.

Gets better and Better

When I got the first book in this series (the Necromancers Delema) I admit I read about a chapter or so then "put it down" so to speak as it did not grab me.... A few months later I tried again and bad news for the Author ... i GOT HOOKED Now I am on book 3 which I finished in one day the Author makes it very believable and the acerbic wit and no messing attitude of Angelus (the Necromancer of the Titles) is a joy The humour is great and I cannot but compliment Joel Leslie on his reading often making me smile and overall good read (especially when Angelus thinks to himself that it is best not ask the question of "Dame Fontain" as to how old she is as he does not wish to loose his Manhood!!) I'm Gay myself and have to say whilst the gay physical relationship is good but the main area of interest to me is the story. The author I presume lives (or has lived ) in beacon hill in Boston and makes the story come alive what more can I say except BOOK 4 HERE I COME - Even if I am having to wait until June 2020 to read it!!!

Brilliant addition to a fantastic series

I love this series, it has everything I like in an urban fantasy, plot, pace, humour and snark. All the characters are wonderfully written by the author and performed to perfection by the narrator. This series keeps getting better and better.
