'The Midlife Cyclist is a triumph' – Cycling Plus

'An amazing accomplishment... a simple-to-understand précis of your midlife as a cyclist – you won't want to put it down.' – Phil Liggett, TV cycling commentator

'Phil is eminently qualified to write The Midlife Cyclist. Well, he is certainly old enough.' – Fabian Cancellara, Tour de France rider and two-time Olympic champion

——

Renowned cycling biomechanics pioneer, Phil Cavell, explores the growing trend of middle-aged and older cyclists seeking to achieve high-level performance.

Using contributions from leading coaches, ex-professionals and pro-team doctors, he produces the ultimate manifesto for mature riders who want to stay healthy, avoid injury – and maximise their achievement levels.

Time's arrow traditionally plots an incremental path into declining strength and speed for all of us. But we are different to every other generation of cyclists in human history. An ever-growing number of us are determined to scale the highest peaks of elite physical fitness into middle-age and beyond. Can the emerging medical and scientific research help us achieve the holy triumvirate of speed and health with age?

The Midlife Cyclist offers a gold standard road-map for the mature cyclist who aims to train, perform and even race at the highest possible level.

Some chapters too technical for audio but generally really good advice. Definitely would recommend for riders

Love this book without being a mid-life cyclist. In fact, I would expect any cyclist would love this book. The physiological aspects of a mid-life athlete is so well explained that you can feel the dedication of the e author to the sport. I would recommend this book to any athlete.

Love it!

With only a brief listening to the sample, I assumed this was not going to be of much interest to me, however I purchased and was completely captivated from the first chapter until the end. A great approach of taking the sciences and philosophically adapting them to real life. You definitely don’t need to be a race ready 40yo to gain from this book.

Pleasantly surprised.

A fantastic insight into the research and discussions surrounding what and how a person should behave and consider trying to adjust to a period in your life where you feel young, but are not actually as young as you’d like to be. The author is clear and unbiased in his narrative, informative and easy to digest. A must for any midlife cyclist.

As the title reads…

Simply everything you need to know about riding bikes (fast) and what to do to make it last into and beyond midlife.

Detailed and very insightful

This is not a training manual. This is a thoughtful exploration of how to push your boundaries as an older rider.

In it, the author explains the differences between an older body and a younger one, some of the potential dangers of pushing a middle aged body to it's limits, and encouraging advice on how to manage your training.

This book should be on every middle aged cyclist's nightstand.

Well worth an Audible credit.

The book that got me back on my bike
