About this listen

Their love was forbidden. But some passions echo through eternity.

London, 1664. Seventeen-year-old Elise de Lesseps wakes on the morning of her wedding, knowing her life is over. Sold into marriage to settle her father’s gaming debts, she’s bound to Lord Edward Asher—a man old enough to be her father and who harbors a twisted secret that will shatter her innocence forever. But when Elise meets James, Edward’s illegitimate son, her life is transformed by something neither of them expected: a love so powerful, it will cost them everything…

Present day. Archaeologist Quinn Allenby has a secret: the ability to see into the past through touch. When she places her hands on a sapphire brooch found within an eerie 17th-century chest, she’s plunged into a world of forbidden passion and deadly betrayal. But as Quinn delves deeper into the visions, her own life spirals into chaos as she realizes she’s not just witnessing a love story, but a terrible crime she cannot let rest.

Separated by centuries, the two women are bound together by a haunting secret and an incredible gift. While Elise faces impossible choices between duty and desire, Quinn risks everything to uncover a truth that someone tried to bury forever…

A breathtaking story of family secrets, sacrifice and shocking betrayals, perfect for fans of Diana Gabaldon, Susanna Kearsley and Barbara Erskine.

I love the idea of the two era's through the eyes of the main character. Unfortunately, the narrator manages to make Quinn sound like a vapid lightweight rather than the strong archaeologist her back story seems to hint at. I am trying to ignore that part as I am enjoying the stories and I am up to book four but it does grate.

Well all I can say is it should be made into a mini series and I listen to all 9 books back to back.
Loved following Quinns stories and then the adventures of day gone by. The Narrator, Wendy Wolfson
was wonderful right the way through. Loved this set of books.

Excellent start to the series, I was totally absorbed in both women's tales. and I can't wait to find out more about Quinn and the past she uncovers.
Wendy Wolfson is an excellent narrator.. I only wish she didn't put on a silly little girl voice for the heroines it doesn't fit

great start to the series

I genuinely enjoyed the storyline in The Lovers, it was engaging, well-paced, and featured strong, compelling female characters that held my interest. The historical elements and unfolding mystery were well crafted and made for an intriguing read.

However, I found the audiobook experience extremely disappointing due to the narrator. Unfortunately, her voice came across as whiny and insipid, which clashed harshly with the strength and personality of the characters, particularly the protagonist. It created a jarring disconnect that made it difficult to stay immersed in the story.

I really wanted to enjoy this series, in fact, I already own all five books but after struggling to finish the first one, I'm genuinely unsure if I’ll continue. The narration was such a mismatch that it detracted significantly from an otherwise great story. If you’re considering this book, I’d strongly recommend reading the text version instead of listening to the audiobook.

Narrator Undermines a Strong Story

I could not really get into the story and found myself 'jumping' great wads of it to avoid listening to the waffle. The narrator didn't help as her voice was extremely irritating.

Tedious and soppy
