About this listen

It began as a dream, a quest for the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, a mythic place where each night an order of owls rises to perform noble deeds. There Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger hope to find inspiration to fight the evil that dwells in the owl kingdom.

The journey is long and harrowing. When Soren and his friends finally arrive at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, they will be tested in ways they never dreamed and face challenges they never imagined. If they can learn from their leaders and from one another, they will soon become true Ga'Hoolian owls, honest and brave, wise and true.

I am having a jod distinguishing between her voices. They are ALL squeaky and her singing voice is terrible. The story is slow but it is not helped by the poor narration.
Shame because the kids like the story but are confused by the poor voices.

Could they not find someone who could sing

I genuinely had a great time listening to this audiobook, the narrator did a really good job. I have some pretty minor complaints, Gilfies voice was sometimes a touch on the annoying side. It wasn't terrible and didn't put me off listening, it was sometimes just a bit annoying when Gilfie would have a long passage of speaking. Also the songs in this were....interesting to listen to. I can't blame the narrator as I don't think anyone could pull off a crowd of emotionally dead owls singing.

I do have some criticism on some aspects of the plot, there were some extreme conveniences that happened, most can be excused with the fact of it being an unknown world so the author can use the lore to allow these conveniences, feing it in their gizzards was a common one. But a couple were a bit ridiculous, the ending in particular.

Overall I enjoyed it immensely, despite my criticisms and plan to continue on with the series.

This whole story felt much like a "chapter 2". It was enchanting to hear more from familiar characters but the whole thing felt like a glorified training montage. This is a good continuation of the story told so far, but does not stand well by itself. It is easy to see how our little band, from this part of the story onward, develop their own speciality skills, as they start to grow out of their adolescence into fully fledged adults. If this were a roleplaying game, our characters just started their specialisations, and have been grinding a bit, to level up their new skills. The whole story so far leaves me feeling the anticipation of what will happen when they come together to augment each other, and to overcome their great challenges. It seems I need to develop that patience that has been spoken of by their teachers!

Developing a world, feeling so much like a sequel.

I couldn't finish this one. It's in a series and I got through book 1 but found that beyond that, the story just seemed to go nowhere.
If you can manage to stay interested enough to listen to all 9? books in the series, you have more staying power than me.

Didn't finish it.
