Publisher's Summary

It began as a dream, a quest for the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, a mythic place where each night an order of owls rises to perform noble deeds. There Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger hope to find inspiration to fight the evil that dwells in the owl kingdom.

The journey is long and harrowing. When Soren and his friends finally arrive at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, they will be tested in ways they never dreamed and face challenges they never imagined. If they can learn from their leaders and from one another, they will soon become true Ga'Hoolian owls, honest and brave, wise and true.

Developing a world, feeling so much like a sequel.

This whole story felt much like a "chapter 2". It was enchanting to hear more from familiar characters but the whole thing felt like a glorified training montage. This is a good continuation of the story told so far, but does not stand well by itself. It is easy to see how our little band, from this part of the story onward, develop their own speciality skills, as they start to grow out of their adolescence into fully fledged adults. If this were a roleplaying game, our characters just started their specialisations, and have been grinding a bit, to level up their new skills. The whole story so far leaves me feeling the anticipation of what will happen when they come together to augment each other, and to overcome their great challenges. It seems I need to develop that patience that has been spoken of by their teachers!

A Great Kids Series

The series is really well written, has an interesting plot and the narrator has a lovely voice with nearly a musical sound.

Could they not find someone who could sing

I am having a jod distinguishing between her voices. They are ALL squeaky and her singing voice is terrible. The story is slow but it is not helped by the poor narration.
Shame because the kids like the story but are confused by the poor voices.

A Light and Enjoyable Read

It has it's dark moments, but overall, it's and entertaining tale. I like how it doesn't completely remove the universe of birds--or even animals--from the human world. No humans are ever present, but they are vaguely mentioned in the story, showing how these two worlds are contemporary. I am curious to see how the story continues.

The calm before the storm.

If you were hoping the first book was really building up to something, you wil be disappointed. The second book is just about the characters hanging out at one location and learning new skills.

One of the best audiobooks ever

I read the first book as a physical book. This one was even better and exciting. I loved the narrator. Actually hearing the owl's songs added something great to the experience. Makes you fall in love with owls!

Great story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Journey to be better than the print version?

I have no time for printed books, but use audio books to pass time while commuting. I truely enjoyed the story line and will probably get all the books for my grandson.

What other book might you compare The Journey to and why?

The journey is a wonderfully done good guys and bad guys book.

Great Glaux!

Amazing book even better than the first book, narrator is amazing (I love her Ms. P voice the best) the only complaint I have is that there are other sentient animals that are minuscule to the story (puffins, eagles, and foxes) but then I guess it would be too much like Redwall.

More action than the moonblinking of the first book and more owls on the right side.
