Story
Western folklore and mythology are rife with brilliantly creative, fulfilled, feisty, and furious role models for aging women, despite our culture's focus on youthfulness. In her exciting new book, mythologist and psychologist Sharon Blackie explores these archetypes, presenting them in a way sure to appeal to contemporary women. Drawing inspiration from these examples, women can reclaim midlife as a liberating, alchemical moment rich with possibility and their elder years as a path to dynamic power.

Story
Young Elly's world is shaped by those who inhabit it: her loving but maddeningly distractible parents; a best friend who smells of chips and knows exotic words like 'slag'; an ageing fop who tapdances his way into her home, a Shirley Bassey impersonator who trails close behind; lastly, of course, a rabbit called God. In a childhood peppered with moments both ordinary and extraordinary, Elly's one constant is her brother Joe. Twenty years on, Elly and Joe are fully grown and as close as they ever were. Until, that is, an earth-shattering event that threatens to destroy their bond for ever.

Story
Rosie Royce is trying to live her best life. Really, she is. But it seems like life hasn't gotten the memo. It's been six years since childhood sweetheart Wes Preston jumped on a plane and never looked back, and Rosie spends most nights spooning her laptop. If she has to swipe on one more bloke posing with a sedated tiger, she'll scream. An impulse move to the idyllic country town of Mudgee is the fresh start Rosie needs, as she trades in her high-pressure marketing career for a laidback gig in local radio. Hell, she may even meet one of those dreamy farmers she's seen on TV.

Publisher's Summary
An uplifting, positive and powerful book about breaking through fear and finding joy through creativity, from bestselling author, Holly Ringland.
The House that Joy Built is about the transformative power of finding joy through creativity, and offers a jump-start for anyone whose desire to create is flattened by fear. Fear of feeling vulnerable, of criticism and judgement from others, of not being good enough, of having 'bad' ideas, of being 'too much'. This book is for everyone who has ever felt stuck creatively. It is for those yearning to write, and also for anyone who longs to create but doesn't know how to find a way into, or back to their imagination.
Uplifting, powerful and inspiring, The House That Joy Built is an exhilarating, openhearted clarion call to experience the joy and freedom of creativity.
'A joyous gift from the heart, practical and wise. Blasts those I-can't-do-this terrors with both barrels.' Susan Johnson, Aphrodite's Breath
'I adored The House That Joy Built—it's readable, relatable and raw. A gentle call to action for creatives. This book is my new talisman for a creative life—it will hold my hand when I'm drowning in self-doubt and fear. Holly lays her heart on the page and encourages readers to do the same.' Amy Lovat, Mistakes and Other Lovers

Inspiring and delightful
I’ve been a fan of Holly’s for years, and attended many of her events. When Holly talks candidly, her energy is infectious. She speaks inspiration and wisdom so effortlessly, you sometimes wish you’d brought dictaphone. This audiobook captures so much of what I have loved to hear from her over the years, and spoken in her voice is such a treat.

What a gift! Thank you.
I love Holly’s writing and it was gorgeous to hear Holly herself read this one. This was a breath of inspiration I sorely needed. A beautiful encouragement - we’re not alone, creativity is worth the joyous, awkward, haphazard pursuit and our inner child deserves a glorious inner country to live in. Thank you Holly and those surrounding her, excellent to the last word of the author’s note!

Inspiring
I have always thought I wasn’t creative because I can’t draw or compose but Holly has changed that and I am so excited. I want to explore my inner creative and embrace what I love. Thank you Holly.

What a jewel
Thank you Holly. This book was compelling and so inspiring. I am an artist and have been struggling with imposter syndrome and a feeling of being burnt out, I also have complex PTSD. I could relate to everything Holly described in her story. FYI my psychologist who is trained in trauma, suggested this book to me and she was spot on.

Heartfelt and encouraging but no need for the swearing
I loved the narrative of this book and the genuine, beautifully read voice of the author, and I will definitely listen too it more than once.
If only there was less use of the *F* word. Don't get me wrong, I swear plenty and it can be used to great effect. It's just that in my view it's simply not needed here. For me, the swearing was an annoying distraction and the very opposite of the creative energy conveyed throughout the book.
There are, however, many great and heartfelt suggestions and ideas in this book making it worth the read. It's also delightfully rich in passion and I could very much relate to the author's experiences. It is very helpful, encouraging, and reassuring to hear from the other side. This book is a heartfelt sharing from someone who made it through the personal limits we impose on ourselves, and encourages you with practical ways so you can do so too.
Highly recommended.

Life Changing, poetic, moving and beautiful.
I stumbled upon this book by pure chance. Or was it destined? I won’t ever know. I cannot do justice to it with my words. It has moved me to tears, made me laugh and chuckle, and filled my body with a force of creative energy that has had me writing new songs in my sleep and in my waking hours, and I desperately miss my guitar. I knew I should have packed it when I left home for this moment. If you are creative, whatever form that takes for you, step into this extraordinary new world. Holly Ringland you are a force of nature. A truly beautiful woman. I’m so glad I happened upon you. When I’m done listening to this one, I will probably listen again, then buy the hard copy and go find your first two books. I’ve recommended this book to three of my dearest artistic friends. I can’t wait to hear their thoughts. ❤️
