Publisher's Summary

From the host of the popular podcast Terrible, Thanks for Asking comes a wise, humorous road map and caring resource for anyone going through the loss of a loved one - or even a difficult life moment.

In the span of a few weeks, 30-something Nora McInerny had a miscarriage, lost her father to cancer, and lost her husband due to a brain tumor. Her life fell apart.

What Nora discovered during this dark time is that when you’re in these hard moments, it can feel impossible to feel like even a shadow of the person you once were. People will give you all sorts of advice of how to hold on to your sanity and sense of self. But how exactly? How do you find that person again? Welcome to The Hot Young Widows Club, Nora’s response to the toughest questions about life’s biggest struggles.

The Hot Young Widows Club isn’t just for people who have lost a spouse but an essential tool for anyone who has gone through a major life struggle. Based on her own experiences and those of the listeners dedicated to her podcast, Terrible, Thanks for Asking, Nora offers wise, heartfelt, and often humorous advice to anyone navigating a painful period in his or her life. Full of practical guidance, Nora also reminds us that it’s still okay to laugh, despite your deep grief. She explores how listeners can educate the people around them on what to do, what to say, and how to best to lend their support.

Ultimately, this audiobook is a space for people to recognize that they aren’t alone and to learn how to get through life’s hardest moments with grace and humor and even hope.

Same same but slightly different

I felt like after the death of my husband, someone had climbed into my brain and written my thoughts .

An amazing read affirming that the cycle of grief is our own, no matter which way we chose to handle it.

Enlightening and true

I was widowed 20 months ago and also widowed previously 21 years ago. I feel the grief from both men still.

The author really hit the nail on the head. she knows exactly how it is and how unfeeling people can be to widowed people.

I will recommend this book as compulsory reading to everyone not just widows. That's because all people should learn how to deal with grief.

A Must Read

This book was so amazing, I finished it the first night. It was like the author and I shared the same brain. Everything I have felt and continue to feel was here, in black and white, on paper....it made me feel normal and okay that I'm not okay. Thank you Nora for sharing your very personal experience. We may need a Cincinnati division of the Hot Young Widows Club ❤

A book for EVERYONE

you don't have to be a widows to get a long list of ways to improve your life from this book. as she says, all of us will have a time in our life when we are sitting in the front row of a funeral and all will have a time when we are in the back rows.

This book should be in an every “widow in emergency pack”!

I just realized…EWP’s should totally exist and this very essential item would be the first to enter ‘said’ pack. Along with a large picture of our deceased husband, a vibrator (if you’re in that space of grief), back-up AA batteries (because EWP’s comes fully prepared), a new reliable pen to sign a crap ton of paperwork and a highlighter to emphasize KEY ELEMENTS in this eye opening book! When I listened to Nora’s book on audible, I felt like it was the first time I could breathe in months. So authentic and relatable…. That is if you’re going through the same gut wrenching pain of losing your spouse….or honestly ANY/EVERYONE that will inevitably go through this. Sadly, no one is immune to this. Keep inspiring and spreading your realness 💖

just finished

I was searching for a book on grief, having lost my late beloved. I had heard of this book and the name of the author , gave it a try. Glad I did- was very insightful , felt like sitting for tea at a friend's home- and she hit every nail on the head. She gets it. I would highly recommend .
