About this listen

A band of vigilante executioners roam London's hot summer nights, abducting evil men and hanging them. Sentenced to death is the gang member who abused vulnerable girls, the wealthy drunk driver who mowed down a child and the hate preacher calling for the murder of British troops.

As the bodies pile up and riots explode all over the sweltering city, DC Max Wolfe embarks on his most dangerous investigation yet: hunting a gang of killers whom many believe to be heroes....

"This is brilliant stuff." (Peter James)

This is the third book in this series and I finally get that this is a pure, ridiculous male fantasy lol. An evil ex-wife; being a single parent but barely having to do any parenting; a fresh, MOST beautiful love interest in every book with the ones from the previous books never mentioned again; giving and taking physical punishment on the daily as if CID is a combat unit rather than a detective unit; its just so silly, but treated oh so seriously.

I love plenty of series that feature tough male protagonists, that aren’t particularly realistic, that’s not the problem. Usually they have an element of fun and self awareness that is entirely lacking here. Sanctimonious and dreary doesn’t go well with violent and ridiculous. Avoid.

Firstly, Colin Mace is always brilliant. The story however relies too much on the individuality of the lead character who, is only a constable and would never be permitted to go off on his own. Also, he’d never be an A/SIO as there would be a DS on the team. If authors want to rely on police procedurals to tell a story, at least make them authentic? BTW, with his multiple and regular injuries Wolfe would be driving a desk……..DCS retired.

Good but out of control lead character
