Publisher's Summary

A chilling attack. A missing child. And a twisted killer driven to the very brink.

DI Louise Blackwell is still reeling from her brother Paul's murder when she is brought back from enforced leave and tasked with solving a strange new case - the slaughter of wild sheep at Cheddar Gorge, a place shrouded in mystery and folklore.

When a man is brutally attacked with a machete on the clifftop and a young girl disappears, Louise realises that the horror is just beginning. Rumours of a mythical presence near the gorge are spreading fast, and why is a local environmental cult resisting all attempts to solve the case? With the investigation into Paul's death about to be shelved and her bereaved niece to care for, Louise is under pressure - and running out of time. Can she find the girl and catch the kidnapper before her worst fears come true?

Drawn deeper into the dark and shocking truth behind the crimes, she soon finds she isn't the only one with secrets to hide.

Gorge

Very good. I wanted to sit and listen all the time but work etc did not allow that.

A little hard to read, but powerful.

I thought it a little contrived and clichéd at first, but built momentum and delivered a powerful message.
If you love your addictions more than people skip to the next in the series - it's great.
Don't read this now if you are already feeling down or berieved.

Not a bad series

Narrator: I’m not a fan of this narrator, the singsong quality especially at the end of a sentence really annoys me

This the third book in this series I’ve read. The main detective Louise Blackwell is a likeable character and I find the storylines engaging. I do, however, have some criticism to get out of my system. First up, I think it’s time for Louise’s nemesis, Finch, to move on, his pointless vendetta is getting tedious and tired. Secondly, the family backstory is going the same way. Louise’s mother is driving me crazy with her constant demands and the ineffectual manner she deals with her 6 year old granddaughter. I would enjoy not to be privy to Louise comparing the victims in her work life to her niece and not counting how many glasses of wine her money drinks. Let’s hope there is a little less of this in future books. Other than these few things it’s not a bad series to get stuck into

Another great book.

I am very much looking forward to the next installment of Louise and co. Someone needs his come-uppence.
