Publisher's Summary
Erich von Daniken has exhaustively researched and analyzed the great world religions, their myths and belief structures, in an effort to find an answer to a question that has fascinated humans for millennia: who, or what, were the Gods described in ancient stories? His extraordinary conclusion? The Gods were not metaphysical beings born of humanity's overactive imagination, but extraterrestrials who left traces of their presence everywhere on Earth. The book includes:
- The suggestion, based on a thorough examination of ancient texts, that alien beings employed high-tech vehicles in epic aerial battles
- Compelling evidence that the Gods used awesome weapons of mass annihilation, both against themselves and humankind
- A radical new interpretation of evolution on Earth that contradicts both established religions and modern science

Material is excellent; narrator is awful!
While Erich von Daniken's material is EXCELLENT and definitely worthy of 5 stars, the narrator was so bad (IMO) that I am having a hard time finishing this one. It may just be a personal idiosyncrasy, but I think this narrator does a great job of making the material seem BORING, with his antiquated non-expressive reading and phony-sounding radio-announcer voice... makes my ears gloss over after just a few minutes and leaves my mind wandering. It reminds of the most boring of educational films I saw in school as a kid... like the ones from the 1950s... awful!
I am going to buy the Kindle version (I hope there is a Kindle version!) of this book and read it myself, as I know the content is fascinating - I just can't stomach the narration. Wish I could give this book the 5 stars that the book deserves, but with this narrator, I just can't.
The other Erich von Danikon audio-book (Twilight of the Gods) that I purchased at the same time as this one is EXCELLENT (as is the narrator) and I do plan on purchasing at least one more (probably more) of this author's audio-books - but will definitely listen to the samples first to make sure the narrator is good!

Real History
Would you consider the audio edition of The Gods Were Astronauts to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version but the audio version was excellent.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The most compelling aspect of this book is the basic questioning of the history we have all been taught. Upon closer scrutiny we realise that our version of history is nothing more than a collection of nonsense from arrogant egotistical megalomaniacs.
Which character – as performed by Kevin Foley – was your favorite?
There were no characters as this is a non-fictional work. The narrator simply read Erich's words.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No particular moment as the entire book was one astounding revelation after another.
Any additional comments?
It is such a pity that the world has been stuck an induced coma of religious dogma and myopia, for the better part of two thousand years. We have limited our own progress as a species - we

same old same old
Its the same as all of Eric van Daniken books. He's always bringing up tons of examples and evidence that backs up any of his claims. But the majority of the brainwashed population cannot learn anything else new or change their beliefs and anything including their views on their own religions or any other religions of the world. And the scientists remain afraid of properly documenting and analyzing the true facts before them. Because they may get ridiculed or laughed at for even thinking such different thoughts. I am glad that Erik von Daniken at least has the balls to bring up these many controversial questions. The narrator was good too.

Many great questions asked and resources quoted
This is a great place to start your own research. Have a question about what the author said? Look it up in the original source material, he provides the passages that he's referencing. Erich covers many religions and historical texts. I really enjoyed this audio book.

Now this makes Sense!
What did you love best about The Gods Were Astronauts?
This book answered so many questions about religion that we've had for years. It is logical and makes sense.
Have you listened to any of Kevin Foley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was our first book with Kevin Foley and we thought his voice a little bland. At first, my husband thought it was a computer voice- expressionless.
Any additional comments?
We take a long drive to work every day and this was our first Audio Book....how fun, and the time and miles flew by!!!

Great read,if you have an open mind
If you could sum up The Gods Were Astronauts in three words, what would they be?
If you are a person with an open mind and is not bounded by any perception of your inner soul this is a must read to help with all the confusion in the world and its religions.
What did you like best about this story?
The facts that were presented and how they could be explained with timelines and documented proof.
What does Kevin Foley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
exuberance, wit and guile
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
Don't believe everything you see on tv
Any additional comments?
there is over whelming proof that something is amiss with what we have been taught all these years, spoon fed rubbish by historians, teachers and so called road scholars who claim to be the people with all the answers, search for the truth for yourself only you can convince yourself.

well presented
The arguments are well presented though I am not entirely convinced. I feel von Daniken has missed something big, not sure what though. Still it's a jolly good read.
