Story
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

Story
Robinson Crusoe is one of the most enduring adventures of the past four centuries and one of the most well-known works in the English language. Or is it? Recently discovered amidst the papers of the 20th-century writer and historian H. P. Lovecraft is what claims to be the true story of Robinson Crusoe. Taken from the castaway's own journals and memoirs, and fact-checked by Lovecraft himself, it is free from many of Defoe's edits and alterations. From Lovecraft's work a much smoother, simpler tale emerges - but also a far more disturbing one.

Editorial reviews
Publisher's Summary
Step into the fold. It's perfectly safe.
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.
Far out in the California desert, a team of DARPA scientists has invented a device they affectionately call the Albuquerque Door. Using a cryptic computer equation and magnetic fields to "fold" dimensions, it shrinks distances so a traveler can travel hundreds of feet with a single step. The invention promises to make mankind's dreams of teleportation a reality. And, the scientists insist, traveling through the door is completely safe. Yet evidence is mounting that this miraculous machine isn't quite what it seems - and that its creators are harboring a dangerous secret.
As his investigations draw him deeper into the puzzle, Mike begins to fear there's only one answer that makes sense. And if he's right, it may be only a matter of time before the project destroys...everything. A cunningly inventive mystery featuring a hero worthy of Sherlock Holmes and a terrifying final twist you'll never see coming, The Fold is that rarest of things: a genuine pause-resister science-fiction thriller. Step inside its audio and learn why author Peter Clines has already won legions of loyal fans.

Very interesting book.
Great premise with interesting and well performed characters each distinct in their own way. If I had to complain I would say they are occasionally a little too quippy during important moments you would think people would just stay focused though for me it was hardly a deal breaker.

If you enjoyed 14 you'll love the fold as well
Would you listen to The Fold again? Why?
Probably not since it was such a great book it's now committed to memory.
What other book might you compare The Fold to, and why?
14, same universe, similar ties as well make this really enjoyable for Peter Clines readers.
Any additional comments?
Main character is awesome, really cool to see what he can do with his "Mind" listen to the book if you want to know what i'm talking about, I found myself saying "No Way" too many time's when he impresses you.

Worth the money
This was my second Peter Clines book and while I enjoyed 14 more, I still really loved this one. Peter writes in a simplistic style which I find very refreshing. I have read some reviews where the listeners were upset with the swearing of one character - so be warned! Of course it didn't bother me, it is just a word and I don't think it was overused. In fact I started smiling over it. But that is off the track - I found the story extremely interesting and would recommend it to everyone.
Three cheers also to Ray Porter for a brilliant narration.

I loved it more than the first book, which I also like a lot. wouldn't hurt to extend the finale a bit though, there is a feeling that it all ended up a bit abruptly. Idk, maybe I am wrong. Would recommend reading the whole series, it is so good

At least there weren't any zombies
Starts off with an interesting premise (we don't have to find another dimension, we just have to tell the machine we have...) but kinda goes downhill half way. Quite liked the characters but by the end I realised that Clines might just be the Dan Brown of sci fi. He can write OK and it does keep you turning the page but ultimately it is a really quite superficial, monsters vs humans kind of thing, with some weirdly awkward sexy banter thrown in. I didn't even mind the dubious science cause Lord knows there is a very good chance everything we think we know is wrong or misguided anyway. This book will not change your life, but it may entertain your ass for a couple of days. I may even listen to another one (the other zombie free one).
