Publisher's Summary

The fourth and final audiobook in Robert Kirkman's New York Times best-selling series, The Walking Dead: Fall of the Governor, Part Two!

The Walking Dead series of original novels, set in the universe of Robert Kirkman's iconic comic, reaches its crescendo in The Fall of the Governor, Part Two. From coauthors Robert Kirkman, creator of the Eisner Award winning comic book and executive producer of AMC's blockbuster TV series, and Jay Bonansinga, Stoker award finalist and internationally acclaimed author, comes the gripping fourth and final novel in this richly woven literary saga, which began with The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor.

In Rise of the Governor, uber-villain Philip Blake journeyed from his humble beginnings directly into the dark heart of the zombie apocalypse, and became the self-proclaimed leader of a small town called Woodbury. In Book Two, The Road to Woodbury, an innocent traveler named Lilly Caul wound up in the terrifying thrall of Phillip Blake’s twisted, violent dictatorship within Woodbury’s ever tightening barricades.

In The Fall of the Governor, Part One, classic characters from both the comic and television series, including Rick, Michonne and Glenn, finally made their appearance in the Walking Dead novel series, only to discover that the Governor is a very dangerous enemy. Now, after a pulse-pounding series of events, the Governor and Rick face off one last time, and only one of them will be left standing...

wow

This book teaches the untold story of Woodbury. How leadership is corrupted and grown. Love Lilly, a very powerful character that you are easily drawn to.

Just so good

Very compelling. I’m a sucker for a good villain, and the governor is quite the bad guy. Now onto book 5!

Great!

By far the best in the series so far. Although I have to say, Lily was pissing me off for most of it. But this was great nonetheless. Such a poetic ending. I’m a fan of the show, but I looooovvveee these books!

could have been great

Lilly Caul is essentially Andrea, only more annoying. She makes a terrible protagonist, she is unlikable, gullible, self absorbed, and unconvincing. In short, it is impossible to care what happens to her. Unlike the show, where there are established reasons why you should care about the outcome, every character in this series is expendable, and should they all be replaced the book and its outcome would be no less entertaining. They give you a small taste of the characters you love, only to leave you wishing they had centered the story around them rather than this bland character.

The one of the best one in the series so far.

Book three is my favorite but this is just the end of book 3. if you've only heard the first 2, I suggest at least listen to book 3 before you decide whether or not to continue the series.

Solid Read, Very Misleading Title

The narrator is amazing. Dont like how they split the book into 2 parts, which is clearly a pretty cash grab. I also dont like the way the book primarily follows Lily Caul. She's a completely irrelevant character in the world of the comics and the show. I originally bought the books because I wanted to learn more about THE GOVERNOR (like the title of the books insinuates), not some random knock off character that nobody knows or cares about. If they hadn't titled the books after The Governor, they would've been so much better. My bottom line is my expectations weren't meant and this wasn't what I ordered. Nonetheless it was a solid story. There were a couple little things that I felt gave the reader a better inside on The Governor but the other 90% of the book was about Lily Caul. They should've titled the books something like, "TWD: The Saga of Lily Caul". That would've set the readers expectations right from the start and would've made the books much better. But then again, without ripping off the name of The Governor, I probably wouldn't have bought the books because I'm not interested in getting to know some obscure, background TWD character.

Great addition to Series!

This book was my favorite of the series. I have watched the two television series and read a few dozen of the comics, but after listening to four of these novels, I think the novel/audio format is my favorite version of The Walking Dead story telling.

Gripping stuff.

I’m a huge fan of TWD television series so these audiobooks were perfect for me since I drive for a living. All of the Governor (Philip Blake) books have been fascinating because they gave insight as to why the TV version of the Governor was so twisted.

A man that finally snaps after losing everything. He chains up his now zombie daughter in a pantry of sorts, whilst killing members of Woodbury and dismembering them and feeding the limbs to his zombie daughter. This is where the story differs from the TV series, but it was as equally gripping and just as well executed. Philip Blake goes from a man wanting to protect his daughter, to a small town dictator/murderer/rapist that’s driven by the voices in his head and an overwhelming urge for retribution.

I won’t give too much away, this review briefly touches on the whole Governor series of audiobooks as opposed to just this one. I would absolutely recommend these audiobooks, especially if you do a lot of long distance driving. I found myself prolonging slightly my journeys so I could find out what happens next!

The fall of the Governor

If you're a fan of The Walking Dead and ever wonder what the Governor's deal was then thus series is for you.
Set in the time same time frame as Rick's arrival to Woodbury hit told from the other perspective.
Well told and nice voice acting from the reader, Fred Burman.

Top and tailed

Top story with a satisfying ending. There is so much more that could be explored which is why the walking dead TV series is so good.

Interesting story arc.

A good if slightly disappointing end to the Governor trilogy. Definitely worth a punt though.
