When her brother goes missing, Ruth Hallbrook follows the only lead that she has - a "magical" shell that will supposedly guide her, all she has to do is repeat the words she hears when she puts it to her ear. That would have been fine if she could have understood what it was saying! One wrong word lands her in a kingdom filled with giants, including one very large, irritating one who thinks she belongs in his gilded cage!

Her attempt to be one of the best investigative reporters of all time is taking a bit longer than she had planned, but all of that changes when she travels to the small, sleepy town of Yachats, Oregon. Publisher's Summary
Internationally acclaimed by The New York Times and USA TODAY, best-selling author of science fiction, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance brings another action, adventure, and suspense-filled story to transport listeners out of this world.
Choose your treasure carefully, thief.
Drago, King of the Isle of Dragons, is the last of the magnificent dragons of the Seven Kingdoms. Bitter and alone, he abandons the emptiness of his realm and retreats to the caverns beneath the palace. In the form of his dragon, he remains hidden from the world, protecting the Dragon's Heart, the last legacy of his people - until he is disturbed by a most unlikely thief.
Carly Tate's trip to Yachats State Park takes an unexpected turn, when she is caught in a sudden storm. Seeking shelter, she stumbles through a magical doorway into a cavern filled with treasure! Yet, as incredible as the piles of glittering gold and jewels are, her gaze is transfixed by the slumbering form of a magnificent dragon.
Carly's appearance begins a series of events that will not only change Drago's life, but will affect all of the Seven Kingdoms. Can a centuries old dragon protect his most valuable treasure, or will the evil that destroyed his race take Carly from him as well?

Lovely to listen to this series.
Lovely to listen to one of my favourite authors' series. Very enjoyable to be able to listen to this wonderful tale whilst doing other things. Narrator did well with all the different characters voices. Cannot say everyone sounded like I imagined but hey, I can overlook that detail. BOOK REVIEW Another fantastic and interesting read from Ms Smith. This review is for the extended version. We are entering the wonderful and mythical Seven Kingdoms series. I was one of the lucky few who was able to read the original short version of this story and the ones that followed. Ms Smith has once again proven her worth as a top notch author by turning a short fun read for her fans into one hell of a great story. This fleshed out story I have just read is absolutely wonderful and I cannot wait to read the others in this new series. We learn more about Carly and Drago, spend more time with them and get more information about the Seven Kingdoms and what they are all about and the toll the fight against Magna, the sea witch is taking on them all. The world we are being introduced too is so magical we will all want to live there.

Loved it!!
Laugh-out-loud funny and tear-inducing in turns... this is the first book in a series, and I'm already very impatient to purchase the second! S. E. Smith is often ingenious in creating alternate worlds, and doesn't fail here. This novel is of the same quality as Smith's recent "Ella and the Beast". Highly recommended. Buy this one... you won't regret it.

I wanted to love this so much, but...
Let me start this by saying that I am a big SE Smith fan. I always enjoy her books so when I found this one on audible I downloaded it right away. There was something just off on this one. Maybe it's because I never connected with the heroine - Carly. Probably because I always find it cheesy when an unaware human stumbles on a paranormal world but was always so crippling obsessed with said paranormal that they didn't function properly in the real world - in this case it's dragons. Then there's the annoyance with characters who make obviously flawed decisions. I also found Drago (a really bad name for a dragon, in my opinion) didn't quite do it for me as an alpha male. Yes, there was a certain amount of bossiness that I find endearing and in those moments he was very likable. Then there were the other times where he seemed whiney, almost. I don't hate this book, I just wanted more.

More of YA novel than fantasy romance
This story reads like a YA novel. It's not horrible, but I am not sure it was classified correctly. The female character's personality leads me to believe this author has had poor experiences with women in their early 20s; she was absolutely annoying, and I find it interesting that the male character just allowed her ridiculousness to roll off him like water. The only thing not YA about this story were the adult scenes...

Disappointing.....
I personally did not care for this book what so ever. I kept reading hoping that would improve it is incredibly slow… In my opinion the lead female character is extremely annoying and rather childish. Some of it just doesn't make any sense girl falls the mystical crack girl says a nice Dragon need to get home. Anyway now Dragon leaves girl flies off rambling comes back girl mysteriously finds her way around this place she hasn't been to be a house maid… This is the land of mystical and magical but yet they have updated plumbing and no one's lived in the town for 10 years but he can mysteriously find toothbrushes yet, he can't find food without going to another kingdom… Somebody else might enjoy the story but for me it was a complete struggle to hang till the end thank God for audibles customer guarantee because this is one I will be returning and I'm not messing with the other two. Basically for me there are quite a few things really annoying about this book.

I've read much better fanfiction
Sigh, I unfortunately find the issues with this book to be indicative of the problems I have with the paranormal romance genre in general. I find my success rate with these types of books to be about 25%. When they succeed, they succeed big for me. They're the reasons I keep coming back, even with such a low success rate. The books I put myself through torture for are these dark twisted tales of fiery passion breaking down all barriers, and BOTH parties find themselves helpless against the onslaught despite them both knowing better. They fight desperately against taboo and temptation until neither can resist the dark desires within.
These stories are the reason you re-watch Francis Ford Copella's version of Dracula. So you can tell sexy Gary Oldman that he should ditch Wynonna Rider, because you'd let him naw on your neck all night long. They're that tingly sensation you would never admit some of Marilyn Manson's videos give you in your no-no place. They're Spike from Buffy, Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan in Star Trek, David Bowie in Labyrinth, Tom Hiddelston as Loki, and Alan Rickman as... well, everything.
This was not that story... This fell snuggly into the other camp which I like to call Teenage Fantasy Island. This book was a particularly gruesome offender in my opinion, as the main character actually ACTED like a 14 year old girl. Dreaming of a Prince Charming who will do what no man has done by finding her "plump" (book's words), awkward self irresistible while she is apparently in her room playing with her dragon toys (book makes mention of her owning several), and has her fantasy castle posters on the walls. You know, the posters we've all seen either at a Comic-Con by some unnamed artist or in a boardgames shop?
I understand an instant, insatiable attraction, but Prince Charming professes his undying love for this person who acts like a dragon fan-girl at DragonCon, squealing at each new dragon thing he demonstrates for her, in less than a day. No torment in his head at all over the fact that they seem to be DIFFERENT SPECIES FROM DIFFERENT WORLDS. No, PC takes one look at his squealing, other-worldy, semi-stalker and says "Ah yes! This curvaceous, chatty, uncomfortable goddess alien whose world I shall ask no questions about will be a wonderful queen for my people!" He then proceeds to fly her around Narnia like Falcor from The Never-ending Story.
Long story short, if you're looking for a 14 year old's dragon fanfic... no, you know what? Even if you are looking for that, go elsewhere. There are way better ones for free on the internet. I assure you.
Now excuse me while I continue to go hunt for my diamond in the doo-doo in this steaming pile I call paranormal romance.

Meh... rubbish story
What did you like best about The Dragon's Treasure? What did you like least?
Not a bad performance but the storyline of this book could have been written by a teenager. What a waste of time.
What could S. E. Smith have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
You definitely need to work on having characters and a plot with more depth to it.
What about David Brenin’s performance did you like?
A good narrator is wasted on a rubbish story.
Could you see The Dragon's Treasure being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Definitely NOT

Charming!
This story was a romance about a rather clumsy woman who accidentally stumbles into a dragon’s treasure cave when she gets caught in a storm while hiking. Fortunately, she has a fascination with dragons since she was a child and is actually rather happy to be there. The dragon has been alone for many years, ever since a witch turned all his people to stone. I like the way SE Smith weaves the story and it has a good ending, though not all is resolved- hopefully there will be more audiobooks in this series to see what happens! Narration was well done.

well that's was interesting lol
I have these on my kindle and on paperback so it just made sense yo have audible too, well it's one man telling the entire story, which was a little weird because I kept shouting.....woman don't sound like that lol
but otherwise he did a good job.
The story is well thought out and easy to follow.
characters are relatable and funny

The Dragons Treasure
When I started reading this book, I wasn't sure I would like it, but as it began, and I have it a chance, I found it was interesting, funny, sexy and adventurous and It was a good read. The girl reminded me of myself completely in so many ways and I was able to empathise with the character totally. The audio was great to listen too also! Highly recommended.
