Well written but hard to finish

I’m this is well written and the first two thirds is suspenseful but I was unable to listen to it all because of the subject matter.

Gripping and devasting all at once

The performance was excellent told by both male and female narrators whcih captivated the emotions of both sexes. The storyline is extremely heavy and sometimes difficult to listen to. I read reviews about other listeners unable to finish this and i understand why. I have enjoyed B. A Paris before and this is very different but not in a bad way. highly recommend if youre ready for the emotional rollercoaster.

Raw Human Emotion

Captivated me.
Loved how it was told by both main characters.
Shows how 'what we think' isn't always 'what we should do'

READER BEWARE

This book was extremely triggering and I am a childless 30yo woman (by choice). Not even in a ‘wow the author did such a good job’ way. The hours dragging out what was a terrible event could really upset people, particularly parents. I wish I never started this book.

No ones perfect

It doesn’t matter how much you try to do the right thing and be a good person, we all make mistakes we regret, we need to live with ours and forgive others theirs if we can. I liked this book, made me laugh and cry too.

Almost 3 stars

To make something clear Yellow roses DON’T smell, especially those from a florist. I know this because yellow roses are my favourite flower and I buy a bunch every so often. And now that I have said one thing that bothered me, let me proceed with the review of the audiobook.

Narration was especially good for both characters.

This is the first book I have read from this author. Halfway through we have learned a few secrets that each spouse is keeping from the other. I have to say that it is disappointing how this couple has so many secrets from each other when they seem to be so happy together. I don’t believe there is a good reason to keep important things from your partner. Is this the reality of this world? if so I don’t want any part of it.

If you have read other reviews you may know that the book’s chapters are from the main characters perspective and are interchanging. I found that Adam’s chapters after the first 1/3 of the book said absolutely nothing, so I skimmed it and feel I haven’t missed anything.

This book is about lies, secrets, affairs and continuous inner monologues. Half of the book was not necessary and in my opinion did not add to the story. However it is a book filled with emotion especially towards the end. Livia’s character may be a bit shallow at times but develops more as the book ends. The last few chapters are very well written and almost make up for the rest of the book. That said, I don’t think I will be reading another book from the same author. Happy reading.

I liked it

I listened this book in 2 days. I found it interesting and really enjoyed it. I found it a bit frustrating at times, the husband and wife not being straight up with each other but I get thats what made the story.

Oh hell

This is written by one of my favourite authors and I’ve been looking forward to this book for ages. I’ve read over half I think but have to stop. It’s too upsetting. Funny how I can cope with murders but family’s dramas floor me. I suggest you read it though.

Frustrating

I think the circumstances were too far fetched in this story. I felt exhausted by the relentless keeping of secrets between the characters and I think in reality all would’ve been revealed much earlier. I was shouting in the end “just tell her!” The narrators were very good.

Not so good

BA Paris is one of my favourite authors. This book is nothing like her previous books and it definitely isn’t a thriller. I struggled to get through it and was relieved I made it to the end. A generous 2 stars.

Terrible

I don’t often leave reviews but this one was sooo bad that I had to.

The two main characters, Adam and Livie were both so unlikable. There actions so implausible and to be honest I’m not sure which one I hated the most as I was listening to this. I’m going to go with Livie.

She wouldn’t stop going on about her party as if she’s a 12 year old girl. I think she said ‘my party’ about 1000 times.

The way they didn’t communicate with each other too was incredible, constantly incorrectly assuming each other’s motives and thoughts. I wouldn’t have been surprised if there was a twist at the end and he was really dead like sixth sense given their inability to communicate.

It’s a terrible book and it’s best to avoid this one.

A little bit disappointing.

I have loved all of this authors other books and was looking forward to this one.
I was a little disappointed, 2 very selfish parents who are actually over the top obsessed with their 'perfect' daughter Marnie, who turns out not to be so perfect after all! Felt sorry for the son as it was like he may as well not have existed.
By the end of the book I was sick of hearing the name 'Marnie'
Good plot, but dragged on. Could have been a lot better if the characters were more likeable!

I thought it was odd that it couldn't have just been a lavish 40th party Livia wanted and planned for herself, nothing strange about that, plenty of people do it, but the whole 'party she had dreamed of every day for the past 20 years' and it being 'her special day' and 'the wedding she never had' it was unnecessary and a little pathetic. if you want a 40th party, have one!

Got to the end; best I can say!😀

Oh my word! What a disappointment. Annoying, repetitive story and overly self indulgent with adjectives!

Disappointing!

Like other reviewers, based upon her previous novels, I was expecting more from this author. This book must have something because I stuck with it and I tend to return anything I am not enjoying! That said, right up to the end, I expected more to happen. The premise is fine, but alone, it is not enough to hold-up so many hours. Much of the story is flat and a bit tedious. The narration is very good.

So disappointing

Considering how gripping the authors other books are this was a real letdown, waited until the very end for something to happen and it never did.
As other reviews have stated it feels like a very drawn out short story

Tedious twaddle

So much about this book didn't make sense however my biggest issue with the story is how repetitive it was, the characters said the same thing over and over again.

It was very unbelievable and I couldn't wrap my head around why the lead characters would keep such vital information from each other.

Brilliant and Very emotional!

Without giving too much away the two main characters , their thought, feelings and fears are very well developed and you are taken on a twisty emotional journey with them. It’s a gripping listen. I usually only listen when I swim but had to carry on with this as I couldn’t wait. Probably for the best as I prefer not to cry in public!

Totally Average

Very disappointed - basic, boring and predictable story. Generally dull and characters very annoying, and selfish
