Publisher's Summary
Has Ben Hope finally met his match?
The master best seller returns with the explosive follow-up to Star of Africa. The second in a two-part series.
Held hostage by a despicable tyrant in the heart of Africa - within the lawless and unforgiving Congo - it's not looking good for Ben Hope. Even worse, someone very important to him has fallen into the enemy's hands, and they're using this against Ben as part of a depraved plan to bend him to their will.

Worst in series
The main characters are morons, there is no way special service soldiers would act in the way the characters did in this book, as for Benz so-called son he needs belting, he cost thousands of lives Freezone arrogant self-righteous stupidity and this contrived story One minute Ben is really smart intelligent you have a minute is making stupid erratic decisions. Really this is about bad writing, the author was trying to contrive situations and scenes and the Cotuit is violence went on way too long, we got the point Africa is tough.

The Devil's Kingdom
The follow on book from The Star of Africa sees Jude separated from the rest of the survivors, and Ben installed as the General's military advisor. The only thing on Ben's mind is to find and rescue Jude, however his attempts are constantly thwarted by General Hossa.
An action packed, compelling conclusion to the two part series.
Well narrated by Colin Mace.

Ben Hope is missing!!
Geoff and Jude steal the show whilst Ben Hope is a complete disappointment. It’s like the author fell out with the character and made Ben into a gutless indecisive moron.
Second book was much better then the “star of Africa” though.
I hope the next books puts dome life back into Ben,

Very entertaining
Again, it’s Scott Mariani, Colin Mace and Ben Hope, what’s not to love?
It was very gory but sadly history, both recent and past, show that it is not all fiction. And I struggled with that. Because sadly there are many in the world who are extremely cavalier regarding the worth, or lack thereof, of other people’s lives. But at least through Ben Hope they don’t always get away “Scott” free! Thank you, Mr Mariani.

Brutal and gripping
Second part of a great story. So dark and brutal but totally rewarding in the end.
Showing Africa how it is and the fact that we must not forget about what happens there.
Scott’s intent to give us a window into the realities of life in central Africa is clear.
Colin Mase is by far the best narrator of this series and long may he continue his great performances and doing this great story every justice.

Edge of my seat for part 2...
This is the second part of the story started in The Star of Africa; this is a brilliant conclusion with Scott Mariani very much on form. Edge of the seat stuff while Ben is continually thwarted by the despotic General. I was constantly grinding my teeth each time Ben had a chance to escape. Jude nearly earned a star for escaping & saving a fellow prisoner - but even at the end after everything he guilts Ben into not killing the General - so nil points to the still annoying Jude. Well done to Scott for making each character have their personality & top marks to Colin Mace whom narrated so well.
(I enjoyed the first part of the story in The Star of Africa, but I did struggle with the characters & the fact that part of the book felt as if someone else had penned it. Was overjoyed this second part felt completely penned by the author. Only my opinion though)

Very bloody and very violent.
Lots of disappointment in this book, after listening to all of the Ben Hope books back to back. It was far too graphic in the violent scenes, and I found myself forwarding past these awful, descriptive scenes. it was as if the author has a very sadistic streak himself and has expressed it in this and the last book. Also, this book didn't show the normal, assertive, Ben Hope who I'm sure, going by previous books, wouldn't have let his, weak, spineless son, dictate to him what should have been done with the despotic villain. Consequently, many lives are lost when the old Ben Hope would have foreseen what would happen.
He would also have known what would have happened after the meeting with the chief of police towards the end of the book. To this end I found it very frustrating and disappointing.
