Story
Eric has survived where people much stronger than him have found their deaths. And not just that: He's managed to activate his magic supply, tame one of the most dangerous dungeon monsters, find the ancient city of monster hunters, and rescue Jay, the girl abandoned by the scouts in Gulper's lair. He left the Dungeons of the Crooked Mountains behind him. Now his path leads him to Orchus, where our freshly-minted mage intends to finally free himself of his debt-repayment oath.

Eric was born in a world governed by the Great System, in the family of Aren Bergman, a respected miner from Orchus. But the joy of gaining a son was overshadowed by the newborn's terrible affliction. Eric was completely nulled-level zero and no characteristics points. The only things keeping him from dying were his tiny base supplies of "life" and "energy". The medicine woman who delivered Eric believes this to be the work of the evil spirit, Bug. Due to the peculiar laws of the Great System, Eric cannot use experience essences or characteristics tablets.

The ads enthused, "The virtual lands of Mirror World await you! Live out your most secret dreams in our world of Sword and Sorcery! Become a Great Wizard or a Famous Warrior! Build your own castle, tame a dragon, conquer a kingdom! All those desperate, lonely, and insecure - Mirror World offers you a chance!" But Oleg isn't meant to become a great wizard or a famous warrior. He'll never have a castle of his own. Nor will he ever tame a dragon. And he's definitely not the type to conquer a kingdom, however virtual it may be.

Classic Russian RPGs lit.

Publisher's Summary
Eric Bergman used to be treated like an outcast, cripple, and freak. Some pitied him, others squirmed in his presence, while others still mocked him to his face. He himself even thought he was born cursed by the gods. But bit by bit, all that changed. That which was once considered a flaw or defect transformed into an advantage. And Eric slowly learned to use it to his benefit.
Eric and his friends escape Master Chi's Hive and journey over the orcish steppe and through the Stone Forest, which tempers them and makes them a lot stronger.
During his travels, Eric discovers that his elder brother never went to the Wastes and that his parents were lied to about what happened to him. Eric promises himself to uncover the truth about his long-lost brother.
Beyond that, the more he encounters the grim heritage of the Order of Monster Hunters, the more he realizes just how perilous a game the foxman has drawn him into.
Moving through the borderlands toward his home city no more than a few days ahead of the orcish horde, Eric still has yet to guess that his adventure is just getting started.

Keep kicking the dog
One thing I absolutely hate about series like these is the fact they don’t give the protagonist a break there’s always something for the audience to hate. It’s a good way to start off a story but when A Series that have made three bucks follows the same pattern over and over again he gets tiring. I thoroughly enjoyed the last two bucks but halfway through this book I noticed a pattern. It’s the same bullshit about him getting enslaved and have to pay it off and I don’t see the pattern stopping anytime soon. If you enjoyed the first two books then you enjoyed this book because it’s just about the same except with a new bad guys. Bad guys they’re trying to use the protagonist to their own devices without his consent and that are more powerful than him. But honestly I enjoy when the hero wins so I’m just going to stop reading the series.

Good but also the weakest book so far.
I enjoyed this book until the last quarter. It took a sharp turn which in turn really messed with the flow of the story. I didn't cate for the cliffhanger or the story leading to it. Otherwise a good book. Just be ready for the final let down.

Moves the story along well
Alexey Osadchuk continues to move the story forward in unpredictable ways and while the beginning seemed as though it was going to churn predictably, it soon began to explore other areas and introduce other interesting characters. Some of these characters formed an alliance that proved mutually helpful but, alas, some betrayals and twists would once again twist Eric's naive and trusting attitude. Even though it seemed like his main quest of freeing himself of his bondage was foremost in his mind, his primary goal of finding what had become of his brother also finds a way of surfacing in unexpected fashions.
Derek Shoales' narration was very good but his gremlin Mee voice was difficult to understand; although, one is able to determine it mostly through context of the following conversation.
