About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 audio drama collection

The Dark Angels are among the most steadfast and noble of the Space Marines - but their dark secret, the Fallen they relentlessly hunt, always threatens to bring an end to their legacy of honour....

Listen to it because:

The sons of the Lion take centre stage in six audio dramas that reveal the great deeds and dark moments of some of their most prominent heroes.

Description:

No matter the foe, regardless of the odds, the proud warriors of the Dark Angels stubbornly refuse to accept defeat. Descendants of the First Legion, they stand foremost amongst the Chapters of the Space Marines, mankind’s mightiest defenders. None fight with more grim determination than the Dark Angels, and their renowned special companies - the Deathwing and the Ravenwing - are held in awe by allies and enemies alike. Yet behind their devotion to the Imperium lies a dark obsession....

This audio drama anthology contains six tales of the Dark Angels, their missions to defend mankind and their relentless hunt for the mysterious Fallen. Within these tales, you'll be introduced to some of the greatest heroes of the Dark Angels - Chapter Master Azrael, Chief Librarian Ezekiel, Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai, Deathwing Master Belial and Company Master Balthasar – as they face their greatest trials and darkest moments. You'll also see the Dark Angels through the eyes of mortal warriors who face the Space Marines' wrath after an encounter with the arch-Fallen, Cypher.

A great collection of Dark Angel stories if you love the chapter and want something to listen to while painting

A great collection of stories

As a collection of 6 Dark Angels stories, this omnibus is great if you want to become familiar with the main characters of the Dark Angels and the Chapter itself.

As it is multiple short stories some are better than others but none of them are bad. If anything, as short 40K stories go, they are all pretty enjoyable though their length does prevent a lot of depth in some cases.

The first three stories, for me, were the weakest. However the insight the provide into characters like Asmodai and Belial is far better than anything I have read in the codexes or heard on YouTube

That being said, for me the highlights were the “Trials of Azrael” and “The Ascension of Balthasar” both of which had excellent voice acting and interesting plots and characters. The twists and turns of the plot of the former reminded me of some of the best Dr Who episodes (you’ll get what I mean when you listen to it) and the latter has now made Balthasar my favourite Dark Angels character as he seems the most human of them all.

These two alone make it worth while getting if you are interested in learning about the Dark Angels, or just Space Marines in general. The only thing stopping me rating this higher is, like I said, some of the first short stories are too short for their own good. That said, the foreboding atmosphere they all create do make up for that somewhat.

Overall I highly recommend using a credit if you are interested in the Dark Angels. Plus it is much cheaper buying this over getting them all individually.

Don't expect a continuous storyline, but these are great bits of quick fiction. Great lore if you like the dark angels.
