Nothing is stronger than a small hope that doesn't give up. The Comfort Book is a collection of little islands of hope. It gathers consolations and stories that give new ways of seeing ourselves and the world. Matt Haig's mix of philosophy, memoir and self-reflection builds on the wisdom of philosophers and survivors through the ages, from Marcus Aurelius to Nellie Bly, Emily Dickinson to James Baldwin. This is the book to pick up when you need the wisdom of a friend, the comfort of a hug or just to celebrate the messy miracle of being alive. I loved this audio book. I found it had lots of life giving quotes and little stories that certainly did offer comfort. It was to me like a warm hug or a breath of positivity as I listened to it out walking. I'd certainly recommend this book to those seeking a shot of hope and positivity in their life.

It's all in the title. Definitely a book full of comfort and ways of thinking that have the ability to shake up your internal and external perceptions of yourself and the world around you. A light on a dark day.

Although, I've not heard Marcus Aurelius mentioned so many times in one book, which was interesting. It sounds as though he was a great philosopher. Many greats from history are quoted and discussed in this book.

Matt Haig is so open, raw and relatable. I love that some chapters are tiny reminders. "I am enough. I am enough. I am enough". Haig is a wonderful writer and tackles mental health with a gentle kindness and realness that no one else I've come across has done.

This book can be best summed up by a quote from Haig's novel, The Midnight Library, "Never underestimate the big importance of small things". I can easily say I enjoy Haig's writing and his narration. His voice is calm, familiar and kind.

Thank you, Matt Haig. I will be gifting this book to everyone I know!

Only wish that this was more like a pint than a shot glass of comfort in this impactful yet brief book of hope for humanity.
