Publisher's Summary

Transform your life using the Bullet Journal Method, the revolutionary organisational system and worldwide phenomenon.

In his long-awaited first book, Ryder Carroll, the creator of the enormously popular Bullet Journal organisational system, explains how to use his method to:

  • Track the past: using nothing more than a pen and paper, create a clear, comprehensive and organised record of your thoughts and goals.
  • Order the present: find daily calm by prioritising and minimising your workload and tackling your to-do list in a more mindful and productive way.
  • Design the future: establish and appraise your short-term and long-term goals, plan more complex projects simply and effectively and live your life with meaning and purpose.

Like many of us, Ryder Carroll tried everything to get organised - countless apps, systems, planners, you name it. Nothing really worked. Then he invented his own simple system that required only pen and paper, which he found both effective and calming. He shared his method with a few friends, and before long he had a worldwide viral movement. Hundreds of thousands of Bullet Journal fans now spread the word and read Ryder's blog and newsletter.

The system combines elements of a wish list, a to-do list, and a diary. It makes it easy to get thoughts out of your head (an unreliable witness) and onto paper, to see them clearly and decide what to do about them. It helps you identify what matters and set goals accordingly. By breaking long-term goals into small actionable steps, users map out an approachable path towards continual improvement, allowing them to stay focused despite the crush of incoming demands.

But this is much more than a time management book. It's also a manifesto for what Ryder calls 'intentional living': making sure that your beliefs and actions align. Even if you already use a Bullet Journal®, this book gives you new exercises to become more calm and focused, new insights on how to prioritise well and a new awareness of the power of analogue tools in a digital world.

Critic Reviews

"I stumbled across the idea of the bullet journal in a Facebook thread on productivity. A month in, and I am surprised by how well this system has kept me on task. I have retired my other organising apps. The physicality of my notebook stops me from getting distracted when I am planning my day. It is nice to have a single log of where and how I spend my time. And, crucially, I am much more productive. My email inbox no longer dictates my priorities for the day." (Lilah Raptopoulos, Financial Times)

"The Bullet Journal is a new system taking internet geeks and organising wizards by storm, after being created by Brooklyn-based designer Ryder Carroll, who spent 20 years developing the method so he could stay organised. Essentially, it’s a modern Filofax - a place to dump all your thoughts, organise yourself and also involve your creative side. We love a life hack, what’s not to love?" (Marie Claire

"As well as the journal’s ability to organise and prioritise tasks, the popularity of pages dedicated to tracking aspects such as mood and gratitude has led experts to believe that bullet journals could be effective in combatting anxiety - as they make tasks easier to approach and deal with." Well worth the time.

Awesome that Ryder Carroll narrates his own story but kinda bland. Changed my journaling though.

Simply Fantastic!!

I love, love, looooooove this book. I’ve been bullet journalling since 13 Aug 2018 (so this is my 4th month) and I have been experimenting with different layouts based on ideas from bujo’ers on YouTube. This book is a heaven sent!! It explains and clarifies everything in detail and your bonus pdf helps demonstrate exactly how to implement.
I cannot thank you enough, Ryder, for this life changing book. I’ve ordered the hard copy and waiting (impatiently) for it’s arrival but so grateful for the audible version. I have not been this excited about getting organised in decades.
Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU ❤️🙏❤️

90% anecdotes, thin on actual content

Waste of time... seriously, just get the info from the net somewhere because this book is about the least efficient means of learning imaginable. It’s primarily a big long sales pitch trying to sell you on the effectiveness of the method. It needs to cut to the chase and explain how to do it... I don’t have the time or patience to wade through this.

listened straight through.. and I'm inspired.

this book has come to me at exactly the right time.. overwhelmed, with too much to do, concerns about my reliance on all things digital. and needing some mentorship to change. I wish I had book this 20 years ago but today is a good day.

Great method for getting things done.

Great method for getting things done.
Easy to understand, the associated PDF is essential that you use this in my opinion visual examples
complement the narration. I use the method now and it works for me.
Its simple to the point. If I had to have a gripe its you MUST use the system with, Pencil, Notebook ,paper.
I hate carry stuff around, a notebook ! when a phone app works! research states that writing makes it real,
unlike apps and theirs some other reasons stated, you can download the app bullet journal £2.99 on apple store, but it only holds 2 days data by design, it would be 100% perfect if that was reversed to unlimited. the 2 days is so you can use electronic way I prefer, and back it up in the paper note book.. I found the method organised my thoughts, goals very well, and keeps me on track... Also though rapid logging was super useful in practice.

Most important book I’ve ever listened to.

This is so very much more than a how to use the Bullet Journal technique, it more like a life philosophy. I know I’ll listen again.

Highly recommended!

For me, this book is just what I was looking for and I connected strongly with almost all of the topics\ideas and approaches discussed. Compared to many similar books there are numerous practical "real world" suggestions on how to implement the key principles of the methodology. I think anyone could read this book and find something that resonates with them and their lives. Definitely something that I will listen to again on a regular basis. Very impressed with the book and the concept behind the methodology generally.

Bullet journal method review by Nym Lotay

This audio book and the written version are very well put together. In both the dialogue with the e reader and listener is consistent clear and concise. The methods in both are easy to follow and shockingly easier to follow. In a nutshell I found this book/audio very useful in tracking my past, organising my present and planning for my future. Based on the instructions I plan to use this method to see how my life has changed. I highly recommend this book/audio to anyone who is seriously about living life to the full. Wishing you well.

Organising thoughts, tasks and events made simple

Allready a great believer of the benefits of planning your life and the power of hand writing your thoughts, this book gave me the courage to leave out all the fluff and simplify my journaling. It is a good and easy listen with a practical PDF to help you understand the system.

not just practical but thought provoking

I don't use a bullet journal but have been toying with the idea for a while so when I saw this was available i jumped at the chance. Loved listening to Ryder's voice, very calming. Loved the content both a how to and a why which helped with getting the how to stick. I am looking forward to the start of my bujo journey.

Life changing advice

This book - or should I say the method described- has profoundly changed my life and mindset. I was a disordered slightly OCD post-it type. Now most things happen on time and without me worrying about the details for weeks ahead. I know everything is in order because my BuJo shows that I’ve thought about this beforehand.

Thank you Ryder for organizing my life - almost for me.
