Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best seller.

Transform your life using the Bullet Journal Method, the revolutionary organisational system and worldwide phenomenon.

In his long-awaited first book, Ryder Carroll, the creator of the enormously popular Bullet Journal organisational system, explains how to use his method to:

  • Track the past: using nothing more than a pen and paper, create a clear, comprehensive and organised record of your thoughts and goals.
  • Order the present: find daily calm by prioritising and minimising your workload and tackling your to-do list in a more mindful and productive way.
  • Design the future: establish and appraise your short-term and long-term goals, plan more complex projects simply and effectively and live your life with meaning and purpose.

Like many of us, Ryder Carroll tried everything to get organised - countless apps, systems, planners, you name it. Nothing really worked. Then he invented his own simple system that required only pen and paper, which he found both effective and calming. He shared his method with a few friends, and before long he had a worldwide viral movement. Hundreds of thousands of Bullet Journal fans now spread the word and read Ryder's blog and newsletter.

The system combines elements of a wish list, a to-do list, and a diary. It makes it easy to get thoughts out of your head (an unreliable witness) and onto paper, to see them clearly and decide what to do about them. It helps you identify what matters and set goals accordingly. By breaking long-term goals into small actionable steps, users map out an approachable path towards continual improvement, allowing them to stay focused despite the crush of incoming demands.

But this is much more than a time management book. It's also a manifesto for what Ryder calls 'intentional living': making sure that your beliefs and actions align. Even if you already use a Bullet Journal®, this book gives you new exercises to become more calm and focused, new insights on how to prioritise well and a new awareness of the power of analogue tools in a digital world.

Critic Reviews

"I stumbled across the idea of the bullet journal in a Facebook thread on productivity. A month in, and I am surprised by how well this system has kept me on task. I have retired my other organising apps. The physicality of my notebook stops me from getting distracted when I am planning my day. It is nice to have a single log of where and how I spend my time. And, crucially, I am much more productive. My email inbox no longer dictates my priorities for the day." (Lilah Raptopoulos, Financial Times)

"The Bullet Journal is a new system taking internet geeks and organising wizards by storm, after being created by Brooklyn-based designer Ryder Carroll, who spent 20 years developing the method so he could stay organised. Essentially, it’s a modern Filofax - a place to dump all your thoughts, organise yourself and also involve your creative side. We love a life hack, what’s not to love?" (Marie Claire

"As well as the journal’s ability to organise and prioritise tasks, the popularity of pages dedicated to tracking aspects such as mood and gratitude has led experts to believe that bullet journals could be effective in combatting anxiety - as they make tasks easier to approach and deal with." (Independent

Well worth the time.

Awesome that Ryder Carroll narrates his own story but kinda bland. Changed my journaling though.

More insightful than expected

I hesitated on this audiobook because bullet journaling is obviously visual, but I found the bonus PDF was great when I needed to refer to anything visual.
The book is surprisingly insightful, and the writer is easy to listen to. Very well structured and not too long.

Great explanation for a great system

I loved the way Ryder Carroll explained every part of the Bullet Journal system. For beginners it acts as a manual or users guide. I will definitely be trying to start using the system to improve on my life and goals.

Just what I need!

I have the hard cover book but wanted a quick birds eye view (via audio) before I get into it. I have struggled with overwhelm and this looks to be very logical , measurable attainable and achievable. Now I will read the book and get started. Excited but calm anticipation. As the Author says "give it three months of use to become comfortable and familiar with it. (NB, I enjoyed the punctuation of humour and honesty in this book).

A Revelation

A beautiful concept delivered with clarity, conviction and authenticity. The Bulet Journal Method is the most coherent yet flexible time/life/journal management system I have yet come across. The author's narration is like a conversation with someone who sees things like I do, but has found better solutions. The audiobook also provides a visual guide with the bumper companion PDF showing bullet journal samples. Whether you are a seasoned journal keeper, already bullet journalling or a complete newcomer, The Bullet Journal Method will infuse your practice with new meaning and depth.

This book is PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT in a whole new way!

One third into the book it became very clear to me that I want to see this process through - because of the personal development component imbedded into the material.

90% anecdotes, thin on actual content

Waste of time... seriously, just get the info from the net somewhere because this book is about the least efficient means of learning imaginable. It’s primarily a big long sales pitch trying to sell you on the effectiveness of the method. It needs to cut to the chase and explain how to do it... I don’t have the time or patience to wade through this.

this book has come to me at exactly the right time.. overwhelmed, with too much to do, concerns about my reliance on all things digital. and needing some mentorship to change. I wish I had book this 20 years ago but today is a good day.

Over egging the pudding

Let's start off by saying that I like the Bullet Journal method as it's a really useful way to keep track of activities and progress towards goals.
But, in an effort to justify writing a whole book about it, it feels like Ryder Carroll cut and pasted bits from all kinds of philosophy and business methodologies to turn it from a study on productivity to some kind of Zen masterpiece.
If you've never read a book on mindfulness then you won't mind all the anecdotes, but I must confess that I got weary of them. Yes, there are a lot of benefits from keeping your house in order, but I feel like this book takes an organisational idea and stretches it as far as is possible.
In summary, use Bullet Journal, but if you want some great thinking on mindfulness or business, go find some Seth Godin.

Great method for getting things done.

Great method for getting things done.
Easy to understand, the associated PDF is essential that you use this in my opinion visual examples
complement the narration. I use the method now and it works for me.
Its simple to the point. If I had to have a gripe its you MUST use the system with, Pencil, Notebook ,paper.
I hate carry stuff around, a notebook ! when a phone app works! research states that writing makes it real,
unlike apps and theirs some other reasons stated, you can download the app bullet journal £2.99 on apple store, but it only holds 2 days data by design, it would be 100% perfect if that was reversed to unlimited. the 2 days is so you can use electronic way I prefer, and back it up in the paper note book.. I found the method organised my thoughts, goals very well, and keeps me on track... Also though rapid logging was super useful in practice.

Most important book I’ve ever listened to.

This is so very much more than a how to use the Bullet Journal technique, it more like a life philosophy. I know I’ll listen again.

Charming, Engaging and Strategic book

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, the metaphors, elegance and structure with which the author writes is inspiring. Thank you for sharing your well researched and helpful ideas. I'm a big fan of notepads journals and scheduling aswell as self development in general, but this book introduced new concepts. Easy listening but may need to buy the book to complement. Highly recommended.

Bullet journal method review by Nym Lotay

This audio book and the written version are very well put together. In both the dialogue with the e reader and listener is consistent clear and concise. The methods in both are easy to follow and shockingly easier to follow. In a nutshell I found this book/audio very useful in tracking my past, organising my present and planning for my future. Based on the instructions I plan to use this method to see how my life has changed. I highly recommend this book/audio to anyone who is seriously about living life to the full. Wishing you well.

Once I started listening, I just couldn’t stop!

I found Ryder’s narrative style to be extremely hypnotic and nonsense-free. The simple explanations and the accompanying pdf document was really easy to follow.

I loved this book and I can’t wait to put Ryder’s bullet journal method, tips and tricks into practice with my new Bullet Journal for 2021.

Even if you don’t bully journal or don’t intend to start bullet journaling there are lots of advice or strategies in the book that would still be useful to know, such as self improvement techniques, goal setting and how to break them down.

Do yourself a favour and buy this book be it in physical book form, kindle or audible. It doesn’t matter the format, the info inside will help you to step back and reflect inwardly regardless of your intentions with bullet journalling.

Happy Reading and Happy Journalling xxx

Great for someone who is new to BuJo

For someone who wants to start a BuJo this is a great place to start, the stories gives you examples to why you do it, some stories might resonate more with you than others but I think that's the point. I love the pdf, it's a great guide to get you started and helps put a visual to the explanations in the book. I do not think this is a book for someone who already has a good amount of experience with BuJo.
