Publisher's Summary

In the sixth white-knuckle thriller from bestselling author Nick Petrie, Peter Ash hunts an assassin—if he succeeds in catching him, Peter's own record will be wiped clean...

With two governments out to get him, ex-soldier Peter Ash has been keeping a low profile. His quiet existence in Milwaukee is far from the action-packed life he's been used to, but perhaps that's no bad thing...

But when he spots a suspicious armed man walking into a busy market, Peter can't stand by and do nothing. He manages to prevent a tragedy, but the gunman escapes and his intended victim vanishes into the crowd. Then a powerful associate from Peter's past appears and makes him an irresistible offer: get to the bottom of what happened that day, and his record will be scrubbed clean.

This is Peter's only path to a life free from the threat of prison. Now, he'll have to fight harder than ever before to ensure that freedom doesn't come at too high a cost...

An Average Listening Experience.

The story "The Breaker" is concerned with the socially responsible integration or total rejection of technologies into society.

I found it difficult to gain traction with both the storyline and the two lead male characters (Peter and Louis). I had the impression that I had met too similar characters in other similar thriller novels.

My favourite characters were June and Fran (older). Their feisty attitude to relentless, without apology, live life on their own terms I found greatly endearing. I thought that June and Fran were mirror images of the same character, separated by some seventy years of time. I found the scenes with these characters the highlights of this novel.

I found the narration satisfactory but would have preferred a deeper bass toned vocal to match the deep and rich masculinity of the two lead male characters (Peter and Louis). The vocals of the female characters were adequate but ultimately were unconvincing. A female co narrator would have been preferable. Otherwise, the narration was well done with differential and consistent vocals that are reflective of their respective individual narrative characterisations.

Ambivalent is how I would describe my feelings about listening to this story.
