Gripping, bleak, emotional and powerful. I'd suggest this to fans of crime fiction in general and fans of character driven material.

Excellent overall.

Sad and complex story regarding the 3 leads who only interact in one scene, but a great mystery you will enjoy hearing about the seedy underbelly of 1950's Los Angeles.

Ellroy is beyond compare the unmatched modern master of the hard boiled detective genre. And the rhythms of his dialogue and narrative mirror the Jazz music that weaves through this novel. Jawdroppingly brilliant. And Jeff Harding was born to read Ellroy.
