Publisher's Summary

Over 90 percent of the population suffers from inflammation or an autoimmune disorder. Until now, conventional medicine has said there is no cure. Minor irritations like rashes and runny noses are ignored, while chronic and debilitating diseases like Crohn's and rheumatoid arthritis are handled with a cocktail of toxic treatments that fail to address their root cause. But it doesn't have to be this way.

In The Autoimmune Solution, Dr. Amy Myers, a renowned leader in functional medicine, offers her medically proven approach to prevent a wide range of inflammatory-related symptoms and diseases, including allergies, obesity, asthma, cardiovascular disease, fibromyalgia, lupus, IBS, chronic headaches, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Now I get it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I think everyone should read this book. Even if you're not on the 'spectrum', you would gain a better understanding of those who are, and perhaps a better insight into the everyday discomfort that we all seem to take for granted.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tanya Eby?

Not keen on the narration. I just didn't think it was the 'voice' of a professional physician.

Any additional comments?

This book has confirmed to me why I've had so many issues, and has given me a direction to fix them. I will never touch gluten again, and can't believe how different I feel without it. And that's just the beginning.

Pseudoscience

Disappointing information and diet recommendations based in pseudoscience. I was really hoping to be able to properly educate myself more about autoimmune conditions. Sadly, this is not the book for that.

Inspiring

I highly recommend this book for those who are beginning their AIP Journey. It explains why you need to do AIP and the importance of compliance. I really like the example of Amy's dad who received so my benefit from sticking to the AIP. A great read.

Great practical guide

If you could sum up The Autoimmune Solution in three words, what would they be?

Great practical guide

Any additional comments?

Read the PDF available through Audible, and the last chapter on the Myers website. If you are going to do the diet, for $3 (US) you can buy the 4 weeks weekly shopping lists, which are great.

Can be condensed to 10 pages

A lot of health info and has some general tips on a good diet and only a little bit of what to eat. Author spent too much time on what we have been doing wrong -80% of the book. I learned something. I know what I should stop doing But still not sure what I should do exactly. I feel books like this can be condensed to 10 pages. A lot of fillers of unnecessary examples.

Redundant

Fourth-grade biology level, at best.
Every chapter regurgitates the same information already stated ad nauseam, gives a sliver of new information and tells you repeatedly about how wonderful the Meyer's System works.
Tanya Eby talks likes she's reading a story to preschoolers.
Aweful. Waste of money.

PDF?

I bought the audiobook get all the way to freedom from autoimmune disorder to find there is no PDF. Very upset that the book all builds up to the Meyer plan, then there is no plan.

What an annoying voice!!!!!

I really liked the book's information, but I feel like the author is a snotty jerk. Maybe it really was written with a snotty attitude or maybe it was just the speaker. I know for sure that I never want to listen to her speak again. As much as I was interested in the book, it took me a while to get through it because I couldn't stand her voice & attitude. It made my baby cry!

No Solution, just a quack trying to sell vitamins

I have been struggling with my thyroid and psoriasis for years (since I was about 16-17 years old). I have been desperate to mange my symptoms. But this quack of a doctor spends 75% of the book just telling you that you are probably sick and that the Meyer's way will fix it, all of it. It's very simple the meyer's way is just a glorified diet where the only thing you can eat are chicken/fish, lettuce, and water. If you don't take the magical supplements (that she sells) and live off of the most boring food ever you will have to take medicine and die. I was so hoping this would be the answer to my health issues, when really it was just another snake oil salesman.

Breathy Reader

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I'm sure this book is awesome, but the narrator was too breathy for me to listen. Each time she finished a sentence you could her her taking a breath. Guess I'm going to purchase the book to read for myself. Tanya Eby sounds like she is gasping for breath.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tanya Eby’s performances?

No thank you

Narrator infuses too much opinion and condescensio

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Okay up through the first 5-6 chapters. After that, I couldn't listen any more due to the narrator's interpretation, which seemed to get worse with each successive chapter.

Who was your favorite character and why?

n/a

Would you be willing to try another one of Tanya Eby’s performances?

Absolutely not

Was The Autoimmune Solution worth the listening time?

Probably - some good technical information.

Paleo Diet For Autoimmune Disease

Be aware that this is a Paleo diet and not suitable for people who are vegans, vegetarians or just trying to limit their intake of animal based proteins. It would have been helpful if that information was made clear in the review or publisher introduction and overview. The diet presented here is very rigid and limited and there are no variations or alternatives for non meat eaters.

Too Repetitive, Sketchy Science

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

NA

What could Amy Myers have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not repeat the same facts over and over/

What didn’t you like about Tanya Eby’s performance?

Mediocre performance.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Any additional comments?

The author kept stating the same thing over and over. After three hours of listening I became high skeptical of her medical believes, and annoyed by the repetition.

Depressing but mesmerising!

If like me, you have an autoimmune disorder that the doctors simply have no answer for other than drugs or surgery then this book could well be the solution. I've searched high and low for support and advice on how to handle disorders which are debilitating, distressing and quite frankly frightening, without much success. I randomly came across this and glad I did. Listened to 6 hours straight as I was mesmerised by the similarities and found myself nodding in agreement throughout. I have ordered a lot of supplements off the back of this book. I'll be starting the diet this week, and will update on my progress. In short - if you have an autoimmune disorder this book will resonate, and if like me you're at your wits end - there's no harm in following the simple nutrition and supplementation programme to (hopefully) get you back to good health.

Good info but...

I enjoyed this book after I managed to get over the narrators voice which I can only describe as Disney-cute-robot-in-breathy-sexy mode, yea cringeworthy! She sounds just like Hank Moody's daughter, ugh. Anyway, the info in the book is by no means original or ground breaking but it's presented well with some good science bits for the geek in us. Dr. Myers also goes into lifestyle changes where other books tend not to; air filtration for example. Great to see another MD jumping on the Functional Medicine band wagon.

the mayers way dosent support plant based

To be honest I was shocked about the amount of meat in this diet plan. I appreciate the information about toxins in our enviromnet and the science behind most of the information except for extreme meat eating (breakfast, lunch and dinner) all studies shows that extensive meat eating increases inflammation. I enjoyed the book, good advice on diet mangment in social gatherings and dealing with drs when you have chronic conditions. I felt the book included a lot of bragging about personal success rather than the reader. I will look for more books on the topic that are not as focused on the writers brand name advertising.

You are what you consume

The voice was sometimes a bit like and automated voice, perfect American. The evidence could be more complete, but it's at least as authoritative as your GP's 5 minutes. Dr Myers, while continually promoting herself and her way, with anecdotes of when her patients came in broken and left fixed, tells a lot of truths about the need for lifestyle change to best autoimmunity. If you have rheumatoid arthritis or another autoimmune disease it's ESSENTIAL reading/listening. For anyone interested in avoiding these diseases of our age, it is also excellent background awareness.

Interesting but narrator has an annoying voice!

What did you like best about The Autoimmune Solution? What did you like least?

I should have read some reviews before purchasing. I am only a few hours in, the subject is really interesting but I am not sure I will make it to the end with the annoying narrator, who speaks in quite a strange manner. I am British, the narrator is American (I am guessing)...if that bothers you then don't buy the audible version of this book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Changed the narrator and the style of how the book is presented.

How could the performance have been better?

Different voice.

Did The Autoimmune Solution inspire you to do anything?

I haven't finished listening to it...
