Jazz: I’m in love with my straight best friend...

Prison changed me, mostly for the better, but it could never erase my love for Tex. Growing up together in foster care he was my one constant, and I hate all the ways I’ve let him down. Now that I’m free my biggest wish is to settle back into our friendship and life in our MC. I know I’ll never have anything more. But the glances Tex keeps shooting me are enough to make me question...is my brother looking at me differently?

Tex: I can’t be checking Jazz out...

Just because my friends are gay, it doesn’t mean I am, no matter how good Jazz looks. Right? I love the guy, but I can’t love him. Except now that I’m thinking about him that way, I can’t stop. He just got out of prison and I can’t risk losing him again because I’m confused. He’s supposed to be my brother.

But when an old enemy shows up, I may end up losing him anyway. Can I trust that Jazz really learned his lesson in prison? Or will old habits get him taken away for good?

Tex is book five in the Hell’s Ankhor m/m MC series. Listen for a slow burn that will singe your heart as two former foster brothers discover just how deep their feelings go...and discover that Tex isn't as straight as he thought he was.

Best friends to lovers

Best friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes, but for me this felt a bit rushed. I might have felt differently if I’d read the book rather than listened to the audiobook though as personally I didn’t love the accents the narrator gave the characters. Other than the romance aspect I really enjoyed the story. I love how the Hell’s Ankhor story continues through the series and blends seamlessly with the love interest of that particular book. I feel I know the club members well and am invested in all their stories.

Engaging and fantastic

Wow! I haven't listened to an audiobook by these two authors with the motorcycle club storyline and I will definitely be rectifying that oversight!! The storyline and characters captured my attention from the get go and I became vested in the storyline quickly. The narrator did an amazing job with all the nuances of the voices for the characters. 🤩🤩🤩

A fantastic heartfelt story! Loved it!♥️

Tex and Jazz grew up in foster care together as brothers. Even as adults they had stayed together, connected, inseparable, always there depending on each other. When Jazz makes a mistake that lands him in the state penitentiary for three years the separation devastates them! Jazz has been in love with him for years but he knew Tex was straight so he’s kept that little secret to himself. Oh but when he sees Tex’s sexy ass leaning on his bike waiting for him the day he gets out, he knows it’s going to get even harder! Literally!
For three long years Tex felt alone and like a huge part of him was missing. His being an enforcer of the MC helped keep him busy but he was just going through the motions. He wasn’t himself without Jazz and hurt without having him there with him. He’s never cared that Jazz was gay and although he’d never put much thought into it before, he notices the difference in Jazz and is drawn to him even more and finally realizes what’s been there all along but is it to late? It takes almost losing Jazz to finally realize the extent of his feelings! Oh this audible is so awesome and I absolutely loved it! It’s just so much love, and the depth of their feelings alone will leave you breathless! It’s one of those stories you just want to keep on going! Im definitely looking forward to seeing them in the future books in this awesome series! I really enjoyed narrator David Allen Vargo’s voices and how easy he made it to distinguish all the different characters. He really did a fantastic job bringing this awesome story to life! I was gifted this audiobook from GRR and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest opinion!

Fantastic 5th book in MM series!

This was a fantastic story, the 5th book in Hell’s Ankhor series. Jazz spends 3 years in jail and gets out to meet his very best friend Tex, whom he is in love with. Tex is slow on the uptake but that makes their slow burn love story all the better. I absolutely love this friends to lovers romance. You are also able to see and follow up with other characters from the series which is always great. I loved the narration as well!

Great story but slightly overdone narration

This is the 5th book is the fabulous Hell’s Ankhor series, a very accessible MC series that even those who don’t think they would like that gritty world (like me) will find the stories engrossing and the characters captivating. This is a well written story, with complex characters, and a unique spin given to what could otherwise have been a hackneyed romance trope. This isn’t just friends to lovers, it’s foster brothers (walking the edge of taboo). It’s not just gay awakening, it’s fighting your demons and your enemies while recognizing yourself and love for each other.

In terms of narration, David Allen Vargo does a really good job. He is a new narrator to me and I was pleasantly surprised. His voice fits with the tenor of the book and the series because it has a richness and depth to it that is the appropriate counterpoint to the characters and the story. He created two distinct voices for Tex and Jazz and consistently delivered them. His diction is excellent and he is able to impart the right emotion behind the words, although at times, the delivery seemed a bit overdone, like he was trying too hard. Unfortunately it stripped some of the authenticity from the voices and very much reminded me that I was listening to a narrator, not Tex and Jazz. Overall, though, I recommend this book and the series, and the audio definitely enriches the experience.

Enjoyed It

This series keeps proving that there's more and more to tell about the Hell's Ankhor crew. Tex and Jazz have been friends forever, but a lot has changed in the three years since Jazz has been gone, and as danger arises so do tempers and secret fantasies.
The narrator did a good job with the voices of the characters.

Great story! Love Tex and Jazz’s story ❤️🔥❤️

In this book we see more of Tex and Jazz, as they are the main characters. We do still see a lot of the club in this book.

Jazz has been in jail, paying for his sins. Even though he did the right thing, he’s nervous about being around the club again. He has changed since going in. He’s surprised to find Tex waiting on him when he’s released.

Jazz and Tex have a long history of being friends. They’ve missed each other tremendously, while separated. This is the longest they’ve ever been separated. Jazz is gay, and has always been secretly in love with Tex, who is straight. Jazz’s time away has affected Tex, though. He’s beginning to question his feelings for Jazz. Could it be more than what he’s always claimed?

This was a good addition to the series, and it laid the groundwork for the next book.

This is the first time I’ve heard anything narrated by DAV, and I enjoyed the emotion he put into his narration. He really brought each character to life. I also found his voice to fit the rough and tough bikers he was portraying.

I've found a new favorite series!

I can't believe this is the first H's Ankhor book I've read because I absolutely loved it!

Though I did read this book as a standalone, I found myself wishing I'd read the earlier books in this series--not because I got lost or couldn't keep up with the story, but because this MC has obviously been through so much already and I wanted to experience it firsthand. Even without knowing anything about these characters, it was easy for me to get caught up in the steamy tension between Jazz and Tex. This romance is a slow burn, but filled with delicious longing and pent-up desire from the very start. Tex's complete obliviousness about his more-than-friendly feelings towards Jazz was adorable, even if I did want to scream at him to just make out with Jazz already.

In between all the searing gazes and jerk off fantasies, Jazz and Tex dealt with some seriously stressful situations and dangerous people. When Jazz got thrown back in the local jail for a few hours I was completely freaking out, but seeing how soft and caring Tex was afterwards calmed me right back down and showed me how deep their bond really is. Similarly, my heart was aching when I finally found out what landed Jazz in prison the first time. It's obvious that Jazz grew up so much while he was away, and I felt as proud as Tex to see him taking on more responsibility and proving he can make good decisions.

David Allen Vargo's narration took this already great story to the next level. Tex's accent was totally swoon-worthy, and there was so much emotion in every character's perspective that these men felt completely real to me. When Tex and Jazz were fighting with the Vipers, I felt like I was right there with them, just as anxious and scared and determined to best them. When Tex and Jazz finally *finally* started hooking up, I felt like I would go up in flames. When Tex doubted Jazz, after everything they'd been through, I felt every ounce of Jazz's pain. I do think I would have loved this story no matter what, but the narration here definitely enhanced my reading experience.

**I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Be aware chapter 17

I am not sure if or when you listen to the audio but at the time I listened to the book there was an issue with Chapter 17. It is fine for the first 10-20mins but the rest of it is just repeating the scene another 2 or 3 times. Outside of this issue the story was fine, the self discovery was great and I'm curious how the background story will work in future books due to BIG BIG things happening.

Narration was good. No issues there.

intense best friends to lovers

a long time coming! I loved Tex and Jazz and really enjoyed their story. Hot, passionate and surprising. I liked Tex's easy acceptance of his feelings (once he finally realised them) and his connection with Jazz is everything you'd want. I liked that the overarching storyline was concluded even if a little anticlimactic but I'm excited to see what's next for Hell's Anchor!!

My favorite MC series

Jazz and Tex have a complicated relationship - foster brothers, ex-con, and an am I gay story all mixed together. It was clear these two were meant for each other but watching the author of my favorite MC club series get them there was wonderful and angsty all at once. The club members always have great enemies to overcome to get to their HEA and this one is no different. Gulped it down and now can't wait for the next volume. David Allen Vargo does a wonderful job with this performance. Crave's evil is palpable and the angsty relationship between Jazz and Tex is on full display. You will feel all the tension from both the evil lurking about and the love trying to come to the fore as you listen.

Wonderful book 5 in the series!

I never get tired to read more books on this series. Every new installment is better than the previous one and I never know what is going to happen next. Tex and Jazz' s story is about two best friends finding out that love was always in front of them, and how we need to confront our mistakes and accept that all deserved to love and being loved. I enjoyed Tex's POV and his take in life. Of course, Mr Vargo's narration was amazing. His deep voice and acting got me since the begining. An outstanding performance. Wonderful!

Super addition

Another great addition to the series by Aiden Bates and Ali Lyda. Jazz and Tex were super characters to get to know and be part of their journey. All the books in the series is amazing and different enough to keep you entertained. David Allen Vargo did a fantastic job with the narration, transports you right into the story.

The audio was really well done. I liked the way Vargo voices Tex. Spicy and sweet.

Excellent slow-burn GFY story

This is an excellent slow-burn GFY story. I'm usually not a big fan of GFY, because it seems there is always a big aha moment where the *straight* character suddenly remembers old, buried feelings he had in the past or a one-time attraction to men he ignored, etc. that explains why he is suddenly gay or bisexual. That doesn't happen here. Instead, Tex's feelings for Jazz develop in the here and now. Jazz has loved Tex for a long time, but he fears to risk their friendship to reach for more, There is some angst between these two best friends and foster brothers as they decide what their future is going to look like. Then, Worst Dad Ever, Crave, comes back into the picture to threaten Logan, Rebel, and the MC. Will they put this snake down this time, or will he get away again? Listen to this exciting and emotional story to find out.

This audiobook has a different narrator than some (all?) of the preceding books, so it took me a little time to get used to the different voices the characters had here, but the rougher, smokey deep voices really fit more with how I picture big, burly bikers.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Beautiful friends to lovers story

Fantastic addition to the series!

Tex and Jazz had a beautiful connection and friendship but what happens when one wants more?

Tex had so much to figure out but once he did, there was no stopping him, from claiming what his heart wanted.

The narrator was amazing - I could happily listen to his narration all day.
