Story
Years ago, the day before Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend, Nolan, sat beneath the Spanish moss of an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to each other, and sealed them in a rusty old metal box. The plan was to return 11 years later and read them. But now, as that date arrives, much has changed. Ellie, bereft of the faith she grew up with, is a single mom living in a tired apartment trying to make ends meet. Sometimes she watches television to catch a glimpse of her old friend - Nolan, now an NBA star, whose terrible personal tragedies fueled his faith and athletic drive in equal measure.

KK doesn't disappoint!
This story continues on where the Baxter saga left off. It is very well written and an enjoyable "listen." The narrators were easy to listen to, and it was nice to hear more than one narrator as the story progressed.

Excellent Story of Faith
In the line of the Baxter Family books comes new characters mixed with the ones we already know. A story of Faith, struggles, temptations, and miracles, this is an excellent Faith based book.

Entertaining story!
What made the experience of listening to Take One the most enjoyable?
I liked that the characters were deeply developed and believable. I had forgotten the fears and dreams through a young girls eyes.
What other book might you compare Take One to and why?
This was the first book that I had read (listened to) by Karen Kingsbury and enjoyed her writing very much. She has a style similar to another one of my favorite authors, Francine Rivers.
Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrators?
I liked having 5 narrators. I would have liked to have the their voices a little more distictive or recognizable. A few times this caused confusion. One of the female narrators was not good, but I couldn't say which one, because I didn't know her name. The male voices were awesome!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried when someone else was chosen for the leads girlfriend. That must have been very hard for the producer/dad.
Any additional comments?
I loved this book. I love that Kingsbury was able to conviegh a beautiful Christian message in a sweet believeable story.....Just PUSH.....Pray Until Something Happens!

Intended for College-Age kids
Great story and message. Book is written more for college age students, which is great, but disappointed I wasn't aware of it prior to my purchase of both books thru Audible.

Story Good but Narrators Lack Finesse
I love Karen Kingsbury, but I have to say I was disappointed with the quality of this narration. In particular one female narrator was quite poor and stilted which is very unfortunate because KK is an excellent author.

Conservative Christian Approach, Okay Story Line
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would only recommend this book to very conservative American Christians, and mostly to youth or youth pastors who want to push this dogma. There is a LOT of religious morality pushing in here, and it's very judgmental (conservative = anti-gay-marriage, no teen drinking or sex, lots of focus on temptation and dealing with it, etc.) If you're okay with that, it'll feed your viewpoint. If you're a more liberal Christian, you'll need to overlook some of the over-assertions made. If you're agnostic or from another faith, give it a pass, you may be offended.
Has Take One turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes somewhat. I'm very religious, but don't want to be hit over the head with it. There must be some middle ground. Why can't couples just be monogamous, kids just good and pure without having to be so focused on saying it's because of God and the Bible? God is great, and so is the Bible, but I'm not a good person living a clean life just because of my faith. My kids are good, but not being judged because we practice Christianity in a certain way. Good is good, golden rule can be applied without being so very pushy.
What three words best describe the narrators’s voice?
Several narrators, voices are okay but preachy.
Did Take One inspire you to do anything?
Probably won't read anything from conservative Christian authors again - the sound clip used for the book didn't include any of this stuff, so it was quite a surprise when I bought it and started listening. Misleading advertising? Maybe. I probably won't return it, but then again, maybe I will.
